My new 2003 KX500 with pics
« on: May 02, 2011, 05:35:10 AM »
Hello everyone, nice forum!  I just got this 03' KX500 on a partial trade for a R1 Yamaha Raptor conversion I had.  I'm new to the KX500 but not big bore bikes, I previously had two CR500's.  I have already ordered some mods to include, the Moose spacer plate, V Force III reeds, IMS pro pegs, chain and sprocket, Paddle, new plastics, and some OEM stuff to tighten it up like exhaust flange gasket, oil drain bolt and gasket etc.  Hope to absorb some great knowledge and also give some!  Thanks!

Grey

I'm from vegas, but in Northern California, the Air Force brought me here.  I love dunes, this thing is going to be set up for dunes only.

I also just ordered a full rim and tire set up.  Ordered Excel front and rear rims, in black wtih oversized spokes powdered black, gold nipples and a gold eco hub from RAD MFG.  I'm gonna run the Cheng Shin 5.60 tire in the rear and a AMS sand snake front.  I used to have the Cheng Shin on my CR500 and loved it.  I'm going to have a lot of packages arriving at my door :)

One thing I noticed is the front pipe mount under the tank is broken off though....I ordered the mount off the microfiche but I realized it is going to involve welding.  The pipe doesn't move at all but I don't like the idea of a missing mount.

I also removed the Acerbis hand guards if anyone wants to buy those.  Once I get 10 posts I'll put them in the for sale section.  One end is missing the bolt though, but overall good shape.

I'm not in vegas now, I'm in northern CA.  From here the closest place is Sand MTN NV which I love to go riding at.  I went to Dumont on Prez weekend, and it was 11 hours towing a fifth wheel toy hauler, no bueno, I'll stick to Sand MTN.  I also used to live in Ocean Beach CA.  Back in like 97 lol

Very clean bike :) nice find.
Just an old guy that enjoys going fast, I was in the army for 6 years and bought my first K5 when I returned from basic training. I raced a yz60 from age 6 to 8  a kx80 from 8 to 12  a kx125 from 12-17 intermediate class on k5 which I've owned 3.

Nice bike and I'm with you on the broken weld issue, those hubs are expensive you airmen must be overpaid :) coming from an E-5 retired.

You retired as an E-5? I'm an E-6 with 12 years in.  I get extra pay and bonuses because I'm an Air Traffic Controller also. RAD MFG gave me a military discount so, I got about $120 off.  It came out to about $1K.  I can't wait until they get here!  I'll post pics.
