First Ride 02-02-19

« on: February 24, 2019, 09:10:03 PM »

Danger, myself and my cousin met new member and fellow Okie ssrlewis today for some riding at Lake Draper. The weather in OKC started off pretty cold, but luckily the wind decided to stop impersonating a hurricane today, so it turned in to a nice day with a high in the low 50s. Danger and I took the bus, which was my first time to actually ride in it. Itís definitely well layed out inside, and makes for a great clubhouse at the riding area.  I took my aluminum framed bike, my cousin rode a KTM 200 SX, and Danger rode his parts bike. ssrlewis rode his KTM 250 SXF.

To break everything up, here is a picture of the bus, inside and out:

We started the day off deciding to ride the blue trail. Itís the easier of the three dirt bike only trails. We all remember the trail being around 13 miles, and pretty mild. Unfortunately due to a lot of rain, changes to the trail layout, and fallen debris, the trail ended up being 17 miles long. In a couple of places the trail was impassable due to fallen trees, and we had to hack our way around using only pocket knives. It took us about two and a half hours to slog our way through it, but we were able to ride the entire trail (Danger forbid us using the short cuts). Once we made it back to the parking area, Danger treated us to fresh hot dogs on his portable grill. We were all starving, so they really hit the spot. We decided we were all to old to go back out, so we called it a day.

Here is a picture of lunch.

The bikes got pretty muddy along the way.  Here is a picture of all the bikes in front of the bus before we loaded up.

It took me about 2 hours to get the bikes cleaned up when I got home. It was worth it though for a beautiful day of riding.

If I would have known you were going to wash bikes I would have sent mine home with you!  Haha. I had a great time riding with you guys and appreciate you bringing Mike so I wouldnít be the only one riding Orange plus he was easy to spot when I would look back to make sure he was still with us.

Most of all I need to thank Danger for the friendly invite to ride with you guys and especially for not kidnapping me in that olí yellow bus!!  LOL

But he has "free candy" on the bus...   grin  It was nice to meet you and I hope you'll go with us again.  Hopefully the red trail will be easier and shorter.

Well I did get an invite onto the bus when you guys arrived and I was thinking Stranger Danger the whole time. Especially with his user name being Danger!!

Looking forward to riding with you guys again. I have never done the red or black trail so excepting you guys to run point on those in the future.

Looks like you had a great day out. Makes me envious.
In fact seeing your pictures has put me in the mood to do something with my KX. I'm going out right away to get a 12mm socket and a wrench. The least I can do is take the top end off and have a look, though to be honest I'm scared of what I may find!

They are pretty fun.  A lot less debris on the red trail as I remember.  The black trail is a beast, so we'll have to work our way up to it.  No sense dying on the trail.   grin
