Will be riding my CRF500KX combo at the REM race tomorrow in the 40Beg/Nov class.

Also will be doing the TWMX races at Pala in a few weeks.

Probably will be the only big bore out there but will let ya know.

Had lots of fun racing yesterday at Glen Helen.  The bike performed flawlessly, I was the one holding it back. Lol

Ran into Kurt Nicoll and talked with him for a while.  He had just returned from Europe and was riding his KTM450.  There were lots of YZ and KTM 2 Strokes but I had the only 500.  The majority of the bikes were modern 4 bangers though.

In two week we will be racing there again.

Racing my first race this weekend in Ridgecrest...Big 6 GP (40+ HWT Nov)...just debating which bike...CR500af or  Husaberg fx450.....decisions, decisions

Apparently I've never riden at the level I did because my hands hurt/ still hurt worse than they every have.  It's hard to hang onto a 500 on the pipe lap after lap, especially late in the day after all the other classes destroy the track.

Can't wait till next time!

Congrats on the race.
If your crank is not balanced that will really wear your hands down.
Consider some Flexx Bars and pegs.
Makes a big difference  cool

racing always has a funny way of making you do things that you normally would not... Like riding until your body hurts for days, or destroying a rear wheel because on the first lap you got a flat tire but really wanted to win haha. (I do this almost every race because i'm fat and get flat tires every time I ride)

@sandblaster  Thanks, if the motor wasn't a fresh rebuild when I bought it I'd take it out and have it balanced.
Maybe when things calm down and winter hits.


 @Ims Roll   I remember racing a GP in Carlsbad in the late 90s.  Part of the course was going down the dragstrip.  Lap 1 when coming off of the dirt onto the asphalt my 500 red lined and I thought my clutch or transmission let go.  I quickly looked back and saw my rear tire was a ball of smoke from being wet with clay and then onto smooth wet asphault.  

That day I got 7 laps out of a brand new Dunlop 756...

Racing again this weekend at Glen Helen.  The wife will be riding her YZ250 at the Womens International  race on the National track and I will be on the REM track.

I changed the pipe O-Rings and Copper Crush Washer and repacked the silencer too while it was all apart.

Did pretty good this weekend. I went 1-2 for the day and the wife got 1-1 in her class on the National track!

There was one other KX500 riding the REM track but he was in a different class.  The first Moto was awesome.  Got a great start and ended up passing people from the gate 1 release some 30 seconds earlier.  Other than having a guy lay his bike down right in front of me and me running it over it was flawless.

Moto two the track was brutal.  We were the second to last race of the day and there were massive braking bumps, acceleration bumps, holes and rocks everywhere.  I kept the first place rider in sight but just couldn't catch up in time.  Timing and Scoring shows I was gaining rapidly in the last two laps but checkered flag came too soon, I suspect arm pump or exhaustion as it was 97 degree that day.  I was feeling it too. Sad

Do you feel like you need more power or is a matter of surviving for the entire moto?
We actually moved the power quite a bit lower in the powerband to get better hookup and give Sean Collier a chance to hang on for 30 plus minutes.

We probably will.  I took this picture of my wife racing on the Nation Track.  She went 1-1 in the women's class she was in.  Only other woman faster that day was a professional who whipped most of the guys too! Lol

For me, at my skill level (Vet Beg) it's a matter of surviving.  Having a modern AF sure helps compared to the '90 I used to ride but at the end of the day Moto 2 is just brutal.  Other than the start I do ride pretty low in the power band, I think most 500 riders do to though. Of course you wind it out on the start and any straight away but for the most part I shift earlier than you would on a 250 or 125 and power thru it.
