Howdy, y'all!  I'm a Soldier stationed at Fort Riley, KS, but I'm actually from western Oklahoma.  Elk City, to be exact.  I used to live in Waynoka, but I use my mother's house for my permanent address.  I've been in the Army for a little over 14 years now, so I have a minimum of six to go!  I may do more, but it all depends on if my plans work out or not.  As far as motorcycles go, I have been riding off and on for about 35 years, so I know my way around a bike, but I'm nowhere near good enough to hit big jumps.  I've mostly ridden ATVs, but my son really wanted a bike, so I got back on two wheels for him.  I have a 2002 KX250 that I'm currently bringing back from near death, and I also picked up a 2004 KX65 for my son.  It needs a rebuild just like mine, but I'm going to make sure he helps out so that he's not a kid that only knows where the gas goes and how to ride it.  I want him to have a very good understanding of the whole bike.  It's a lot of bike for him considering it's his first, but I plan on using a KLX110 lower throttle housing to slow it down.  I could do the washer mod, but I can adjust the throttle screw in the field a lot easier.  Plus, it will be a lot less messy to do so.  Anyways, sorry for the novel.

I fully expect my boy to get accustomed to his bike pretty quick.  I wish I could have started him out earlier, but being on active duty is tough on families.  He has spent nearly half of his life in Korea.  If we go back again, we'll definitely take a couple bikes and our trailer.  Believe it or not, there's actually a small motocross series over there.  The tracks are few and far between, but there's a fairly nice rider built track on a small island nearby if we go again.  The cool thing is I'm allowed to bring my stuff.  It just counts as household goods.   For the time being, we have a few nice places to ride around here.

You know, there are a lot of Okies that ride, and we have some of the best places to ride next to California.  It's weird to think, but I've known a lot of famous riders over the years.  The first guy I met was Robbie Van Winkle, AKA Vanilla Ice.  He rode for Sammy White's Kawasaki in Irving (I lived in Dallas for a long time), and he wanted to date my sister, so I hung out with him for a while.  Of course, that was several years before his career as a rapper.  When I was going to OSU, I met Marshall Plumb, owner of Marshall's Racing, former factory Suzuki mechanic for Steve Hatch, and current Dunlop tire guru.  Through him, I met Guy Cooper and his nephew, Kenny Bartram.  I rode a bit with Kenny, and through him, I met one of his best friends, Travis Pastrana.  I would like to say I knew Robbie Reynard and Justin Bogle, but I more or less was at 59th the same time they were, completely in awe of their speed.  As far as other Okie riders, I'd like to meet Trey Canard and Brett Cue.
