KX500 Original / Alternative kickstart pedals for 1985 KX500B1
« Last post by waigy on September 03, 2023, 09:12:07 PM »
I've went through quite a few kickstart pedals (and footrests, and skin off my ankle) and my recent setup using the original KX500B1 kickstart boss with a steel pedal off a Suzuki has worked very well for quite a while.
But, I haven't been able to start it in the past weeks and have kicked it probably over a hundred times.
First the boss pin bent, I got it straightened, then the pin cracked.
The only pedals I can find are new and I'm very reluctant to buy one for 175 GBP as it's the alloy version which breaks easily (experience again).
Are there any other steel pedals or steel bosses that will fit the spline size and fit into the space under the exhaust?
I'm prepared to make another combination pedal from parts off different bikes.
Or does anyone have a second hand pedal for a 1985 500?
I've seen the thread in this forum saying that a KX250 pedal fits onto the KX500 boss, but it's the boss that I need.
I'm in UK.

Well... Another year of testing done and Bonneville is a bust.
It rained less than a week before our event and it's all over.
Oh well...
There is always next year  8-)
Here is what 500 miles of land speed testing looks like on a KX500

sounds like crank bearings are not seated in the cases all the way.

KX250 / KX125 / Kx250 1994 bottom end build… help!!
« Last post by Murch1995 on August 10, 2023, 07:13:41 PM »
Hi guys, I’m rebuilding my kx250 1994 bottom end, due to crank seals failed as to my knowledge is a common issue with the kx250 I maybe wrong?… anyway split cases and replaced bearings with hot rod transmission bearings and koyo crank bearings, reassembled the cases and everything was free up until when I tighten the bolts the crank begins to bind I can turn it by using the fly wheel side but doesn’t spin great by just the rod measured the bearings in comparison to old ones before I fitted and were the same, crank isn’t new but was replaced last year haven’t don’t a lot of riding since also it isn’t out of spec, is there normally some drag or do I need to tear it apart again?? Just to add I’ve use th case skitter and. Crank installer tool as required. A family friend said to hit the ends of the crank with a mallet or dead blow to seat the bearings?? And also put some 2stroke oil down the holes to the crank bearings to help lubrication?! And advice would be great thank you 🙏

KX250 / KX125 / Kx250 1994 pistons.

Hello guys just a quick one, I’m rebuilding my top end and measured the bore in which resulted being exactly of the service limit , I need it plating really but can’t actually get it plated until a months time I need the bike for a charity race before hand, standard piston is size B 66.35mm but obviously if the bore is almost out of spec will this mean the size B is too small (replace with a size C or D) or would it be okay to go ahead and replace with a size B? Thanks for your time guys! 👌🏻🙏

KX500 Original / stem bearings
« Last post by gwcrim on June 24, 2023, 10:49:45 AM »
Now to the stem bearings.  I installed new BUT...  the upper seal barely touches the neck.  Won't seal well that way.  Also the bolt holes on the number plate (this is a 1989 with conventional forks) are about 1/4" too far apart.  Seems like the bearings are a bit too thick.

Anyone else run into an issue like this?

Hi Ya'll, I've been gone for nearly 5 years and Happy to see many of the Old-timers are still kickin'. Lost my wife and riding partner in late "18 and pretty much parked the Toys. Picked up a Grizzly last year as a project and that got the ball rolling. My 87 KX250 is rippin' again. I forgot the thrill of the 2 Stroke and my 67 years enhances the experience. I'll spend some time catching up and thanks to the Crew for keeping the ship afloat.

I’ve been on KDX riders because at one time I was about to buy a KDX.   Then a 92’ KX250 an old friend of mine had.   I’ve ridden them off and on since I was young.   I currently have a Husqvarna CR125,  but I think you can’t have just one so one day I will get a KX and hopefully have learned a lot more about them by that time.   They have always been pretty good bikes.   Better suspended then others at that.   Probably a mid 90’s is what I am aiming for.

New here, I'm in the process of getting my '84 KX500 ready to ride again, it's been in storage for the last 15 years. I've just gone through the wiring and tidied it up and wrapped it in heat shrink tubing. Today I will be doing the forks, they need new seals.

Tomorrow I'm getting the carby cleaned in an ultrasound cleaner and add new needle and seat as well as new jet, also getting new tyres, mechanic at local bike shop will be tuning the bike also.

I'm also going to clean up the plastics and add a new decal kit. I'm looking forward to taking it out for a ride in our local state forest.

I just ordered some green anodised KX marked bits and pieces. I'll add some pics of the bike over the next couple of days.

For some reason I can't upload a pic.
