KX250 / KX125 / 1999 KX250 Carb questions
« Last post by wingrider101+ on December 19, 2024, 12:10:48 PM »
I'm going thru my recently acquired 1999 KX250.

I see nice cross-hatching in the bore looking thru the exhaust port, It starts up easily but has a very low idle.
Previous owner has the Idle screw almost all the way In to try to increase idle rpm.. it will Almost idle.. need to blip the throttle every 30 seconds or so to keep it running..

Tonight I began removing the carb to inspect the jet size and needle setting.
before I even have the carb boot loosened - I notice a broken (Red) wire (chassis harness side of the connector) that goes to the carb fuel solenoid.

If that Solenoid is disconnected (broken wire) is the Idle circuit effected?

Do any of you have an explanation of how the Fuel Solenoid and the Throttle position sensor function on the '99 KX250 ?

Introductions / New Old Rider Here
« Last post by wingrider101+ on December 02, 2024, 09:50:22 AM »
In My mid 50's now but my twist wrist thinks I'm still 25.
Been riding and wrenching on my own bikes since my first 1987 KX125 I bought in 1991.
I've owned many brands and sizes, need to maintain all of them.
Just recently bought a '99 KX250 that needs a little love.

I mainly ride the single track trails all over Michigan but I love an intermediate stadium track too.
The last Track I rode was in Northern Ohio, called Zero Gravity.

I'm here for advice/information and to add what knowledge I can , when I can.

KX500 Original / 1987 KX500 crank bearing journal specs
« Last post by Bigloudtruck on December 02, 2024, 04:27:35 AM »
Hello, Got an 87 KX500. Had to have some welding done to the case halves due to an accident. After having it repaired I sharpied the mating case surfaces and lapped them until they were flat and no gaps. I don't think it took off more than a couple thousands but am now concerned about side load on crankshaft bearings when reassembling. Anyone know the factory dimension and tolerance on the distance between the seating surfaces of the bearing journals when case halves are mated together? I'm a tool and die maker and made a tool that I use to measure this and can compare if anyone can provide this info. If I took too much off I just plan to make a gasket as I have in past 2 stroke bikes but need to know how thick to make it. Reason Im needing to know the factory joutnslseat to journsl seat spec.Or as I'm looking it appears that the halves of the crank are not tapered..I measured...therefore the bearings could potentially seat all the way against the crank weights which means Kawasaki made the adjustment of bearing distance greater than what the case halves allow in assemble...the reason to center using a crank puller? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Introductions / Wiring Diagram Wrong?
« Last post by spduffee on November 16, 2024, 07:14:45 AM »
Afternoon All,
I have an '87 KX250. I also have a service manual for the same.
The bike isn't starting, even though I have a blue spark, fuel and I rebuilt the top end.
I want to test the coil, stator and ECU. The manual mentions a Black/Red wire that is to be tested, coming from the ECU. The bike doesn't have a B/R wire anywhere.
I have looked at replacement ECUs on eBay, and don't see any B/R wires there, either.
Has anyone noted the same?

KX250 / KX125 / 1991 kx250 rear hub
« Last post by 454x on October 13, 2024, 03:52:50 PM »
I picked up a blown 91 kx 250 today and noticed it had a loose rear axle. I pulled the rear wheel to install a tube to roll it around and noticed the wheel was hard to pull out . I realized the wheel spacer i.d. wa way larger than the axle. I'm wondering if I have the wrong hub, it has six holes for the sprocket and four holes for the brake disc. Can any one tell me if this is correct. Im pretty certain at least the wheel spacers are wrong.

KX100 / KX85 / KX80 / KX65 / KX60 / Engine Locks when kickstarting
« Last post by Lozza458 on September 02, 2024, 12:51:45 AM »
KX60.  When trying to kickstart the kickstart has locked and engine no longer turns over.  Was running and kicking fine previously.  Suddenly this - and the lock occured with the engine no running and cold.

Can't see how it could be bottom end issue?  Happy to take input from others. Could it be gearbox or top end?  What about if the kickstart is locked - would that cause this somewhere?

New to KX and 2 strokes.  Usually a big bike kinda guy!
