Title: New 500 Engine cases
Post by: Timbowe on December 18, 2011, 04:59:35 PM
So after many rides and hours and hours of fun the poor old 04 decided to cough up her lunch. Got home, washed her down and discovered a nasty crack through both cases and inch or so below the cylinder base.

Got a couple of mates who are top welders who could probably stick them back together but at this stage my preference would be source a pair of new cases and build a new engine.

So my question to you is where would I get a pair of new (NOS Possibly) cases and any idea how much roughly. I'm way down here in New Zealand and the likelyhood of the Kawasaki peeps here having anything are slim I would think, slim or if they did have they'd want their weight in gold. :-o

Summer here now so I am gona really miss not having it for a while. Its been the best 500 I've had and I will do my best to revive her to its best.

  Thanks in advance, Tim.

question is why did the cases go....

Chances are... you need ALOT MORE than just a set of cases...

Yep I know. Figured the cases will be the harest to get? Smaller bits should be OK to source here or overseas.

http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/1994-kawasaki-kx500-kx500e6-us/o/m3871#sch65003
Very good price $484 here in europe/UK we have to double that {?600 uk pounds}
I think bikebandit will sort the import tax {extra} for u

The new cases dont have any engine numbers

Notice the bearings staying in the case  :-D The seal area would be a little bit of hassel but not wasted

Hi I'm in New Zealand too and have a '90 kx5. I've brought a lot of new parts from mrcycles.com. They are real good with freight too. My current order was $65 us freight using USPS. $418 US for a set of new cases + GST when it gets here. Usually only charged gst if its about 500NZ or more. I might be interested in your old cases if you'd sell em cheap. Could you please email hq_350@yahoo.com.au if you're interested?

There is someone in Christchurch selling an early 90s kx5 on trademe and it comes with a spare incomplete motor. Might be worth asking. Risky though, like you say they'd probably want a heap.

Cool ! Thanks for the replies. Not going to leave too long. Allready missing it. Got an old barrel from the old 92 KX500 I was thinking about sending to Eric Gorr for a little extra mojo since it looks like a major rebuild.

NZ 500 I'll flick you a email once I,ve pulled it down. Saw the 92/3 KX on Tardem. Got it on watch list. $ 4k a little more than I want to pay tho. Mines still mint (ish) and I would rather spend the cash on mine rather than have another.

Thanks. Yeah fair enough. I meant more you might be able to buy some cases off the seller rather than the whole bike. For what they cost new it's probably worth spending a bit more though. Looks nice too. I got a new RH side engine cover for my '90 and it makes the bike look a lot nicer.

Engine cases come with no #s, so you can stamp your #s back on them.

I would stamp the letters "FTG XXXXXXXX "  and tell everyone they are unobtanium Factory Team Green race cases   :-D
