Title: 2004 kx250 no spark
Post by: Philthy Phil on October 18, 2011, 01:11:35 AM
I have a 2004 kx 250 and i took it out and started it, it started 1st kick and i let it warm up, it was running slightly rich but i think that is because the choke was up. Then i switched it off to put in the new spark plug. then it wouldnt start. so i put the old plug back and the nothing... checked spark and there was nothing on either of the plugs...  then i tried to find the cause of there being no spark. found a loose ground cable, tightened it and still nothing... swapped out the started coil with a spare i had and still nothing. i took apart the kill switch to see if it wasnt sticking, and it was fine. and i checked all the electrical connections. any ideas on how to test the other electrical components? or what else the problem may be?

could be your spark plug cap as been move a little bit of the main core wire, which could stop the spark getting to the plug cap. just check if it is in properly.

I've ran into this problem 3 times on 3 different bikes. From dealing with this I have found that kawasaki has weak coils, my 99 125 02 125 and 03  125 have all had the coils die on them. Once I replaced them with an aftermarket coil I never had another issue.

You said you tightened the loose ground but did you clean the surfaces of any paint, rust or dirt? Pull your magneto cover and check to see if there is any water in there. My wifes 03 KX250 stator was corroded badly because water got in there and sat. She didnt lose spark though. Possible CDI also.
