Well when the "Administrator" calls you out and to be fair to the other guys here's my '05 kx250. Please note the placement of the site stickers to which I am very proud to wear. I have two kx500 but waiting for the motors to come back from Paul / Kaw-Rider (he said it would be this month) and will post pictures of them when they are complete. One of them is a steel 250 frame conversion which Doldguy has been a great resource for info.

Here's my freshly rebuilt 2000 kx 5
-
2000 KX125.
After years of being away from dirt bikes (yet always admiring from a distance) I traded some truck parts for this.
I love 125's even though they're underpowered. I'm a little undersized, so it works out fine.
-
the 500's 99 in front, 98 in the back
then an 01 250
-

Crikeys, I'll get some recent closer up. I took apart the front wheel and caliper to get some pics for a guy on another site.. She's a runner so don't expect alot of bling... First thing after I get my Daughter off to school.. There are a few tossed in my photobucket account... all I have left is my boys '88 xr250 and the 500 I'm gonna give him for his college graduation.

Wow guys! some nice bikes! I want to get my yz in that great condition! My kx is good condition already but I want to make that mint too first cause theres not much to make it mint. New front and side fenders. Touch up frame paint and the silver ish color that is on the shifter and swingarm if I knew where to find these. Also could use new tank decals including white stickers on the side. Great bike Tuck! Im impressed and grateful to know that so many kx'es are being maintained meanwhile other people in the world it is said to see that they make a mint bike look bad and beat it up. Great bikes guys!
-
her's mine. nuttin to brag about but i love her.
-
first bike is my 03 kx136, second is the 06 kx250 af which i am waiting to hear back from the welder about, third is the donor bike for the AF project which will go back together afterwards and be sold.

KX500 Hillclimber

The chassis is a modified 1991 KX500 frame with Showa forks from a CRF450, and a rear shock from a KTM 450SXF. Custom Chromoly swingarm. The plastics are 09-10 KX450F. The frame has been changed a few times over the years to fit the newest gen. plastics and seat, to feel like a new bike.

d**n. how long is that swingarm?
Id still love to see the dual plug setup
-
cool. :-o
you have a half of a Suzuki swing arm
-
its between 12 and 14 inches longer. are you wanting to see a pic of the kx dual plugs or the cr ? cause i think i can get them uploaded now or maybe the guy who did it for me would be nice enough to do it again. and yes the bike isn't pretty right now but its a work in progress so what can you expect. i plan on stripping the paint off the motor, doing a green frame, head, and stator cover and getting a green rear fender and hopefully the side frame covers and the pipe flat black. i'm going to stuff the crank, and hopefully port it if i can find some specs for it. so thanks and let me know which dual plug head you want to see or both if you want !!!
have a great day
-
that guy who posted my pics happens to be YOU !!! sorry didn't even notice. i'll get you those pics. of both the kx and the cr. i'll just email them to you, hope thats ok ???!!!

Well, thanks to "alward25" selling all kinds of goodies...I bought his Warp9 front wheel, and got a brand new matching rear. This was something I had been undecided on doing for quite awhile, but once I saw Alex's wheel for sale...the decision was made.Wish I did it a year ago.

Heres me bike. Wrecked the engine about 12 months ago. Seriuosly wrecked. Rod snapped at the small end and and punched a hole through the front of the cylinder and smashed the cases as well. Todd from Pinsonnault Racing sorted out a spare cylinder I had lying round and managed to source me a set of cases and a new crank assembly. So hope to have it back up and running very soon. Yay !! Cant wait.

-
how many hrs you end up with?
Its been a few years since I got out but I think I logged a total of 450 hours ish.....I didn't log as many hours as the others....I was an avionicsman not a flightliner.....I flew not as a crew chief but I earned my "B" billet as an AO (aerial observer) on the aircrew. Alot of the crewchiefs were logging as much as 4-5 hours per mission, and even more while deployed overseas. My buddy Tim logged as much as 800 hours in his 4 years with the squadron.

Stay right there! I'll be right over! Lol, I would love to have one of these beats. But being only 5'6-ish and weighing 127lbs, I think it would have fun wheeling on me. Still, I would love to ride any 500 at this point

02 PC125. Its a non replica bike. I have the MSO from PC for it. The downfall is that PC removed a few carbon pieces and most of the Ti hardware. However, it is still rare and sweet bike. It just sits in the shop collecting dust so I have wash it every once in awhile.

Hmmmm.... Is that a water pump guard I see?
-
Yup, previous owner was an actor/photographer in So CAL and ended up meeting up with Dayton Rapper and had him go through it and do some Team Green mods. The rear shock is also anodized black or coated somehow have not investigated much yet. Radiators are gusseted, frame hoop guards, sub frame chain protector, extended clutch lever, balanced crank, suspension revalved by Dayton too. Looks like it is going to be a fun project, now just what do I call this build, "Probably going to change the air filter too".

Needed the air filter changed so I bought it?

Heck dude, we kid because we care. You bike is still prettier, this next year lets all go for a ride. By the time I get down there you will have your bike all done and running circles around me. The guy was concerned that I did not know how to ride one and was nervous till I pulled a 5th gear wheelie for a couple hundred yards.

Thank you sir, sometimes things done in desperation work out well in the end.

Thank you sir, sometimes things done in desperation work out well in the end.
yes..full agreed .. i thought of doing the same with the rad-plastics, but was not sure, if it will fit correctly to the tank...
-
it's a pretty common thing to see here in the states, even on the 500's.
-
The holes line up but it's not a perfect fit. The fronts tip upward leaving a gap between the shroud and the recess in the tank of about 10 -11mm at the lower rear corner. The space it reveals is a little dull from the original plastic which draws attention. I guess a little polishing would help.

if the holes line up perfectly, is the rest easy going with little bit handcrafting... :-)
-
In my case everything bolted up fine with no more fitting and is good enough in my camp.
You can see the mismatch at the tank in these pictures.

My '04 KX250 /BB 300
Owned since new, raced for many a seasons in Enduro's then was parked for about 2 years in pieces. Decided to finally big-bore up to 300cc, welded-up & repainted the frame, swapped over my enduro goodies (200w E-line lighting coil, 18" rear wheel, '03 KX250 open-chamber forks, Flexx bars, 13/52 gearing, etc). Used thinner base gasket then stock to bump compression up & running on 110 leaded race juice with spot-on jetting. I now kick my self in the arse for not having done the big-bore sooner! 6 months in & it's still tight as ever!

Built this from a basket case, needed one of everything. I could kick it over with 3 fingers, no joke! Engine overhauled and some parts I had laying around, I am still looking for a before pic. Clutch would not move hardly with a full fistfull, both bearing were shot. Also did the clutch arm mod. Updated the shift shaft too. Now, it pulls stupid hard and idles super smooth. Check out the rest of the album. Thanks for looking!

We were going to just fix the broken oil drain plug and other holes that were improvised. After we got the engine out and cases split I said, while we wait for my guy to weld the case, subframe, and do the clutch arm mod lets powdercoat the frame. More of my spare parts are now out of my garage. The white frame and green subframe turned out pretty good. Something different. Hope you like
-
looks great!
where did you get your black side plates, e-bay, or elsewhere?...or did you paint em?
I threw on black fenders Sunday, but I'd really like a new set of black side plates...as I really don't want to paint a set.

good looking bike...
I remember you saying in the "Pipe for mx" thread, that it had some homebuilt set-up for the silencer on it. Looking at that pic, it "appears" to be one off a mid '80s 500, maybe an '85-'86-'87 :?....that should explain any homebuilt mounting crap you're referring to.
The green swing-arm's different!.
-
Aha thats why? I remembered the big oval muffler from my 91... Yep swingarm will be blasted to get rid of the green... Frame and subframe will go for powdercoat... Sadly they destroyed the coating on the upper forks might out the forks from my kx450 on it instead depends on the condition inside the forks...
-
correct, the '91's silencer would have been oval....unless it's an aftermarket, which the Richter Privateer was the only round silencer I can think of that was around at that time, I'm not sure if Pro Circuit had a round one out then...but it doesn't look like either one of them.
make sure to take plenty of pics of your rebuild progress, and post em up :-D

Here is my 2004 KX 250 I bought off Craigslist. This is on the trailer after I picked it up in rural Southeastern Oklahoma:
The motor had a slight compression problem as you can see:
The piston was a bit unhappy as well:

My son and I blew the motor apart and rebuilt it with a fresh replate from Millennium Technologies, a Wiseco piston, and all new gaskets:

Since the rebuild, I've added Tusk Wheels and MX 31 tires, 2007 KX suspension redone by Factory Connection, ASV Levers, new side panels rear fender and fork guards, 2014 KXF front fender and number plate, and 2008 KXF Shrouds. I'll be adding DecalMX graphics this weekend.

It's a very fun bike to ride. Love those old two strokes!

Yes and some videos to so I can learn that darn gopro that´s been sitting in the box since I bought it over a year ago...

over a year ago??...d**n!...I woulda had that mo-fo outa the box immediately.
one of these days I'll get one, just no where near a priority at the moment.

This one belongs to my dad. He bought it new in 1975 along with a KX 400. He rode the KX 400 and used the 250 as a "buddy bike". The 400 was traded in on a new (demon possessed) 1984 KX 500, and then a two ton DR 350. When I went off to college in 1991, it was put up and not touched until last fall (2013). We pulled it out, cleaned out the gas tank and resealed it, and the thing just fired up. The tires even held air. Don't worry, we fixed the seat. It was cut down for a shorter riding buddy of my dad's. I got a chance to ride it for a while over Thanksgiving this year. Man have bikes come a long way!

I have this video of my cousin riding it in my driveway without a gas tank or seat. We were still cleaning the tank out.

if you ever get the chance, post some more longer video's over in the "Post videos of you KX" thread...not too many of them around these days in that good of shape!

Got the graphics on my 2004 KX 250. I ordered from Decal Works, and they were able to accommodate my KXF plastics. I put a 2014 KXF 450 fender and number plate, and 2008 KXF 250 shrouds. Just a word of warning. If you put KXF shrouds on your KX, they come in two different sizes. I learned the hard way after getting the wrong graphics.

Today I made a softstart of the kx500 project...
Warmed her up good and drained the grey/white oil from the gearbox, hope that the transcover isn't to badly corroded around the waterpump. But there was no oil in the coolant so hopefully no leaks from the waterpump to the gearbox.
Other issues are from a quick inspection:
* bad radiators, scaushed with missing/cracked brackets etc...
* bad rivnuts in the rear subframe
* drycracked boot for reedcage
* damaged fitting for the clutchcable on the left engine case.
* spongy clutch (clutch arm in left case looks a little worn)
* someone has removed the coating from the upper forktubes, have to meassure the thickness so they havent taken to much material away...
On the good side:
Grease nipples in linkage for the suspension...
The repairs / restoration that has been done seems well done

Greetings;
Pardon my stupidity but I'm now 58 years old and have become somewhat "rusty" in the MX world. The story is that I got this KX (pictures below; sorry the VIN pic is so crappy photobucket wouldn't cooperate) for free with the thought of doing a rebuild. The engine is frozen solid. I have never done a rebuild on an MX bike before - this one seems to have a lot of good parts but I don't know..... In my efforts to make a start I tried to ID the bike via the VIN but I must be doing something wrong. Questions:
1) My kid says it's a 1987 but I can't distinguish between a 250 and 500 or the year. What is it?
2) Is it worth getting the engine running? (I'm very good at trying to pee up a tree - I've done it on several cars)
3) If it's worth it should I rebuild the engine or just buy a used one?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

i just cant find the handle grips i want. so she'll wear those a little while longer until i do.i want some metal end alloy screw on style end green and black ones. i cant see getting something i dont want. its getting harder to find the green ones with dual colors,.. cept for EMIG and i dont want EMIG.theres another green factory front fender .a black ufo rear fender the original seat cover in good shape on the ballistic seat on the factory backing covered seat on the extra factory tank on the graffixed tank. kinda bums me out i threw out the old factory rear fender. but my bike jumped pout of my hands one and wheelied its elf out of that fender. o poked holes and bailing wire sewed it. . i should have kept it too.all those things are of my 95 that i just demoed the engine with the connecting rod. some years ago. yes i kept em. got pretty much everything from the 95 as far as the whole bike still. cept the crankcase has got a big hole in it right where that single 14mm engine mount bolt hole is molded for the front top engine mount below the exhaust pipe hole of the barrel(jug). not much left for that bolt to call home on those halves anymore. plus gouged th crap out of the intake side port of jug(cylinder) with the connecting rod before it came to rest peeking out from under my exhaust pipe. what a f'd up day that was.

its grabber green duplicolor. i did that the rear brake cover the head cap the nipple that comes out of the jug and the stator cover. its wearing off of course.but it looks good. i get bored with the same old same old . ill probably change its clothes again next year. i do like the black frame and fenders. i wish i could locate a green mono spring though. i dont think painting it is the way to go...... and i do like working on a clean bike. so much better. . thank you for the comment.i put it all into it.

Hi just finished my street legal KX 500 - Greets from Germany :-)

Most recent incarnation of my favorite '04 KX250/300bb, photo taken about a month ago after the most recent repaint/rebuild/refresh (2 years since last replate & chassis check/repaint, 3 years & 7-8k miles since last bottom-end split & replace). This time to go with my favorite '03 forks, I swapped the shock off the '07 KX250 (after a revalve to match) on to it. Gotta say I'm liking this shock a lot so far (we'll see how it likes rocky creek beds shortly).

Where did you find the team Kawasaki style graphics?
-
company called evo mx in England make the graphics and the seat cover
-
yeah EVO is a great place!. Frank has hooked me up several times over the past few years...even with some "odd ball" stuff. He just needed good quality pics of the unusual things I needed, to base off of...and he'd e-mail me back pics of what I wanted would look like as the finished product, until I was happy with the results.
His pricing is very fair, and shipping to the U.S. is really quick too.

Trying to figure out how the heck to post pics...
you can go this route...
http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php/topic,10040.0.html
but if you already have pics up on the web on another site for example, it's easier.

1989 kx500, not gonna saw it half :)

04' kx250 w/ 96 kx500 motor
-
That's a really nice looking bike! Did you build it?
-
No I did not me and a buddy of mine put a 86 cr500 motor in a 02 cr125 and after riding it i got the bug. I sold mine and my sons hondas and was looking for a donor kawasaki and run across this bike already done. After beating around for a month I was able to purchase this one for less than what I could get a decent motor donor bike. I run a few hair scrambles with it and LOVE it. thx for the comment though. It was kind of like it was meant to be because whoever built it was a bigger guy, and I got front and rear springs in a box. When I got home the part numbers from ride tech and progressive were the exact ones I needed to order as I am 6,6 and 270 with riding gear.
-
It's a really nice looking bike, and it fits you. It doesn't get much better than that!
-
Yea I love it. It is amazing the difference between riding my old 01' cr250 and this one. I had to keep the 250 twisted up tight, where this 500 I can just lug around like a freight train. I could never go back !!! :-D It is funny how everyone who looks at it asks where the compression release is. I just tell them that I personally don't need it, 2 twists of the throttle and 1 kick and she always cranks . I have won many free beers cranking it with flip flops on when it is cold!

Thanks Allways a work in progress. ive stopped racing currently im spending more time renovating my house but luckyily i have x3 97 kx250s i am currently building from scratch in my shed over a long term build. Plan is to do one mint genuine replica and another as a KHI pro circuit replica.
The emig replica which started all this was a fun project to get me back into riding after nearly loosing my foot 3 years ago. its amazing how well this 21 year old bike goes with a couple of key mods.
-
1993 KX125.. Fantastic bike, fun to ride!
-
Test test. Everytime I try to post something with a picture it says the the file folder is full or something like that. I'll try Imgur, but I'm a huge noob so hopefully it works.
Ok got the pic up!
I just joined the site today. Picked up this bike recently for super cheap because the guy that sold it to us said that it needed engine work. We noticed the pipe was smashed and wanted to start there so we slapped on a new FMF fatty and thats all the bike needed! The motor pulls HARD, I love the engine in this bike! I need to redo the fork seals and even the rear shock blew out on me the first time I rode it. I'd like to respring it to my weight and/or do the kx450f fork upgrade that I've been reading about too.
