Title: 2002 KX500 Project
Post by: kawiscooter on September 28, 2011, 09:52:03 AM
I just wanted to post back some photos from my project. I got most if not all of my info from this site and wanted to say thanks to all who paved the way. This project was "easy...." but man did it take a ton of hours. Lots of fun though. I wish I would have documented better. We used a 2002 KX250 frame and a 1994 KX500 motor. Its what we could find. We rebuilt the motor - new everything. The 2002 Chassis had the origional chain and tires so I wouldnt have thought it had too much run time. We greased everyting up and called it good, except the suspension. I weights the 250 motor anfd then the 500 motor and found the 500 to be ~ 15 pounds more is I recall. I added that to my weight and send the suspension off to Race Tech for new springs and valving. The bike rides very nice! 2/2 holeshots on its first motocross outing and a great conversation piece. I didn't do anything too exotic and tried to just use what worked cleanly. I'm a garage mechanic but no pro. I do want to figure out a two piece clucth cover and a rekluse for the bike. I have a rekluse in my KX450 and love them. I'll post the other pics I have. Thanks again!

You ride that bad boy over in Oahu? We went there last year and rented bikes for a day it was awesome! Just making the assumption from your name...I'd love to ride more in Hawaii.

Hey, we have some things you can "only get in Alaska" up here...just saying...

Two weeks out from recieving a pile of parts that will turn into a KX525AF from one Mr. Eric Gorr of Foreward Motion, I can not wait!

I'm going to stud it up and see what she does on the ICE!
