Hey Mate,
I look at the Kawasaki Website for details and compare part numbers between KLX and KX to make sure for the project I am undertaking.
So far, things I have looked up are rear shock, frame and flywheel numbers and it gave me what I wanted (ie, they are not the same for the year I am looking for).
http://www.kawasaki.com/kawasakinew/accessories2/PCCatItems.aspx?intCatalogID=1&intCatalogType=4&ProductTypeID=10&ModelMarketingID=583&ModelYear=2008&ModelCode=KX450D8F
Compare years of the two models and their part numbers. That should give you a pretty good guideline.

only difference really is visual as the 06s dont have dlc coated forks and have the 2 small ridges in the frame that flow through the mainframe and the 07-08 450s have the smooth frame. google the two bikes you will see what im talking about.

I realize this is a very old post but since others may have the same question I thought I would take a stab at it. I have an 06 frame as well and from what I've read the swingarm position changed some between 06 and 07. In addition to the normal shim stack changes I think the fork pistons and possibly ICS spring changed as well.
