Title: case splitting
Post by: chrisxj on September 17, 2011, 09:06:38 AM
I have to split the cases on my 85 motor what side of the cases should i lift off first
(i.e. stator side down pull clutch side up or clutch side down pull stator side up) or is their any little springs that connect to internals that the springs would be attached to either side of the cases  thanks in advance

Yeah stator side cause the tranny is connected to the other side and some of the gears might slide off.

when doing cases,b4 using splitting tool, triple check for hidden case bolts, and make note of which hole each bolt goes in, as lengths differ.the shift star has to be in a certain position when you get to clutch side too, keep eyes open and work methodically.photos are a good idea as you dissassemble for reference.hth.K.
