Yup, good eye. "Boost bottles" were a short lived fad performance gimmick back in the mid 80's . DG made them aftermarket and everyone (myself included) realized that after you drilled a large hole in your intake boot for the boost bottle nipple, the boot would tear and crack from vibration and then you suck air, lean out and your piston goes "SQUEEEEK" .
-
When i start rebuilding it it will need a new boot it is cracked to hell i dont know how ran with out suckin air but it did. should i put it back on or can i get away with ditchin it its jerryrigged on their anyways because its and 86 frame
-
ditch it.use 86 manifold, as 87 on have an angled manifold due to different shock location than 83 thru 86.hth.K.

Great advise ! :wink:

the 86on manifold wont fit the 85 { 4bolt vs 6 bolt }
a new 85 manifold should be very reliable as the hole for the boost bottle is oem {not drilled}
the boost bottle is suppose too improve lowend power and MPG
Dont know how well they work but i dont think all the big maufacturers would spend the extra cash fitting them if they did not work
yamaha first Yamaha Energy Induction System (YEIS) used on many models from the 70/90s and still used it on some of the later ypvs models dt125 rd125etc where the gains should be less
Suzuki Intake Pulse Control system (SIPC), have used on many model ts rgv
not sure what honda called there system but i think the boost bottle was fitted too some NSRmodels
if you do remove the boost bottle on the kx you may need to rejet,

Everyday's a school day....looks like you need to find an 85 manifold then, or have jfab do you an ally one... :evil:K.

i feel the boost bottle and similar devices are definitely a gimmick. on my 91 WR500 i had all the parts to convert it to a YZ. doing so meant not running the boost bottle that was stock with this bike. i never noticed any difference whatsoever in how the engine ran with it or without it. same can be said for my IT200. i would definitely remove it and make sure the manifold is well sealed. another opinion for you to consider hahaha................
