i did a google search... it said to use oven cleaner to clean it off, and maybe some sort of wax to make it eezee to clean off the fresh soot.
p.s why are you going through soot? that can hurt your lungs if your not wearing a mask.

hmm.. thats interesting i would thing that the oven cleaner would tarnish the motor. that stuff is really strong. i ride up in trevorton and freeland pa awesome trails and hill climbs. there is allways tons of people up there. its just when it rains its like a layer of coal on the bike and really hard to get off.

Do not use oven cleaner! I used some luckily only on one side and spot of my jug to test it and it tarnished the hell out of it. I had to scrub it with I scotch pad forever to clean it up. I also love having my motor clean. I use that Gunk brand engine degreaser. It works pretty good for me. Or a tad of gas in a spray bottle. I heard of muck off but never tried it because its 25 dollars a bottle. Also purple power works pretty good too.

Mr. Clean power dissolver, small blue spray bottle
find it in the dishsoap isle in supermarket
you can go clean your bike with it after you finish the dishes.....(the wife)

Simple green or Castrol super clean tire and wheel cleaner, not the regular super clean, it will oxidize.
