Title: Jetting questions for newb
Post by: fraz83 on July 22, 2011, 08:06:40 AM
I have had my bike for just over 2 years now and i have never messed with the carb.. i noticed it bogs sometimes at 3/4 throttle when its not warmed up real good .. i ushually ride around 2000 to just over 3000ft .. i have no carb experience really .. im just wondering how hard it is to jet it properly ..

thanks

PWK39

168 Main
55 Pilot
#7 slide
N82M needle #2
Air screw 1 1/2 turns

I'm in Las Vegas so I usually ride between 2000' and 3000'. Some of my riding is up to 10,000' and this still works without fouling any plugs. At around 4000' I'll start to notice the power dropping off but otherwise the mighty 500 just keeps chugging along!

Here's some jetting charts. The Team Green Chart worked the best for me.

 Yep,
Just remember GENTLY SEATED position.  Your not gonna hurt anything moving the air screw around so don't worry about blowing anything up...Yet... :-D

Move the airscrew about a 1/4 of a turn either direction and take a spin, just like getting a pair of glasses... Better or worse?...
A general rule is to try and keep your airscrew at about 1 1/2 turns out from gently seated.  That way you can dial it in or out as needed for the riding conditions of the day.

The N82m Needle is the stock needle alot of KX5's came with from the factory and lot's o guys like to run with.
The next time you have the carb apart, look at the needle just under where the last clip position is.
That's where you'll find your needle # stamped into.

You really should not be at "3/4" throttle until your engine is thouroghly warmed up, you are asking for a cold seizure...
