Post by: bilger69 on June 25, 2011, 02:51:35 AM
I need a Sprocket seal for my 1999 KX500 it just started leaking slowly. But I cannot find the part number for it anywhere. and it doesnt come up when you search sprocket seal as if that is not the proper name.???????????????????????????  any ideas?           thanks everyone.

I have the same year bike and mine just started leaking too.  I haven't gotten into it yet but can the seal be replaced without splitting the case?  Thanks.

you can just pry it out carefully with a flat head screwdriver with the engine on the bike.

there should be a couple O-rings you should replace as well, and even the collar if it has grooves in it

Make sure you replace the orings, the o-rings seal the shaft collar to shaft  fit.

I just replaced mine a few minutes ago.  That was way easier than I expected.  Took about 30 minutes.
