well I just got a 91 kx500 for $400 it seems to be in good condition buy needs a crank, where can I get a good price on a new crank or should I have this rebuilt(and by who?) I am also gonna need a manual i guess. What are the chances of getting it road legal? how would I do that(i have a bill of sale only)? I am planning on dumping my klx650c for the kx if I can get it road legal

Road registering your bike varies from state to state. I street registered my kx in CA. I dont ride it on the street I just did it to ride on the street only trails and roads that have been closed off to off highway vehicles. I am selling my baja designs street legal kit if you are interested. Pretty much you need a lighting stator headlight and tailight. Hydraluic brake switch and some blinkers horn etc.

I saw mac's price but figured I can have mine rebuilt and balanced instead of buying new. What are the differences(aside from colors and graphics) between the 90-04 bikes(i know about the suspension) I saw that the earlier bikes (90-95?) are 60hp and the 2000-04 are 65 hp. what is the difference?

I don't believe there are any motor changes from '89 all through '04. Maybe something in porting, but NOTHING worth 5hp.
