Title: Building an Exhaust system??? Not a KX question...
Post by: kawdude on June 03, 2004, 05:05:28 PM
All,
I am in the process of restoring my 82 XT200 and I have a design question for anyone willing to help.

I have found that I need a new rear exhaust pipe because the original has rusted out badly.  Has anyone built a pipe before?  I envision pieces of pipe welded together to the back of the bike and into a "larger" style pipe as the silencer.  Is it that simple?  Granted I need to come up with some type of baffle...maybe an old fmf KX500 silencer?!?

I understand this is not a KX question but it could be if Kaw made the KX250f in 82.

Kawadude,
I made a set of pipes once for my yamaha 1981 RD350 2-stroke twin road race bike.  I was a lot of work.  I got the formulas from the David Jennings 2-stroke tuners handbook.  Rolled some of the cones and others (like the head pipe and silencers) I scavended off other pipes.  Like I said, it was a lot of work but......THE BIKE RIPPED!!!!  Exceeded my wildest expectations. Cam.
