Title: 1986 KX-500 float hieght
Post by: ditchound on June 02, 2004, 03:27:37 AM
I am working on a freinds KX-500 and need to set the float hieght but cannot find the spec at my local dealer as he only has a service manual dating back to 1988.  I need the manual measurement not the fuel level one one as I do not have the service drain plug tool with the fitting for a clear hose.

Thank you

Rob

Ditchound,
If the carb is a Keihin PWK39 an easy way I use is to disconnect the fuel hose and put a new piece on (tastes better).  Blow air through it (with your mouth) to determine where the float needle cuts off the air flow.  Set the float height so that the casting line on the middle of the float is parallel to the carb body or just a touch lower when it cuts off the air flow.  Hope this helps. Cam.

I will give it a try, the carb on this bike has those 2 seperate floats the ride up and down on rods, so it is hard to do it that way.

Thanks

Thats a mikuni carb isn't it?  I don't think it a Keihin but I'm not sure.

My '86 had a 40mm Mikuni on it from the factory.  I no longer have the service manual for it however.  You might try calling another dealer.

I have tried other dealers but they just have the spec for checking the fuel level with the bike running using the clear plastic hose using the special drin plug to atach the hose too??!!!

Does any one have a service manual or even an owners manual?

Thank you,

Rob
