Could be a lot of things.  Sounds like inspection time.

Do some easy stuff first. (Do in order until problem found.)

1. Pull the flywheel cover and see if it came loose - it happens.

2. Pull spark plug and inspect for debris.

3. Pull pipe and shine flashlight into exhaust port while having a buddy slowly kick the bike over.

4. Pull cylinder and check for rod bearing damage.

5. Roll up your sleeves and dig in.

Bad vibes are caused by an imbalance in a rotating assembly.  There are many assemblies that rotate in your engine/tranny.  Keep that in mind when you roll your sleeves up.

Good luck.

ya he brought it over and more of the story came out. He hasent started the bike in like 7 years it's a 1996 RM 250 and the bike is in good shape. You can tell that the bike hasent been put into the dirt. Well I did a tune up and the bike fired up on mybe the 7th kick but kept dieing out and I seen that the choke was falling and not staying up long enough to make it run. Well after the bike fired up 2 more times the crank locked up and thats where im at on that one....Im saying the bottom end is shot.

89 thanks for the help,I havent been on for awhile...been working. The bike still in my garage, but he went out and picked up a nice KX 250. Were in the works of a deal and I might be able to get the bike for $200, if I put on some extras that he bought for his new bike. $600 ill have a real nice bike with getting it fixed!!

Hi.

$200 sounds real good. Just beware though it could cost more to rebuild than you think. Your crank journals could be worn and need hard chromed or crankshaft replaced and there could be hard bearing parts going through engine, scoring bore, piston, head etc. Other little bits and pieces worn out can all add to the rebuild cost. If all else fails though it has to be worth that in parts?
