Hi,
I have an 03 500 and noticed that the front wheel was moving a few inches forward while holding the front brake and bouncing the forks. I first thought it was one of the fork springs making noise, but noticed the play in the front caliper and saw the front wheel moving.
Is the front caliper supposed to float or could something be worn out?
Thanks
Dan

Put the bike on a stand (get the front end off the ground) and start wiggling the wheel and brake.
If they seem solid you can remove the wheel and move each fork tube individually.
It should become apparent where the problem is.
If not, take some pics of what is happening.

I put the bike on the stand, held the front brake and the wheel moves about an inch (when I rock it back and forth) because there is some play in the caliper. I wonder if the play in the caliper will still be noticeable when everything heats up?
Thanks

I found it, it's actually the rotor that's moving. I didn't realize that it's a 2 piece design and the top half "floats" on the bottom that's bolted to the hub.

The rotor is shot if it moves that much.

+1
Replace that rotor and I think you'll be happy 8-)

Is there a certain brand that you reccomend? I Imagine the stock one is outragous.
Thanks
