Post by: husqrider on March 04, 2003, 03:16:13 AM
I THINK THIS IS AN EASY ONE , BUT I NEED TO ASK. IS THAT A 93 KX 250 R. FENDER ON THE BIKE AT THE HOME PAGE? IF THAT IS TRUE, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET IT MOUNTED  THANKS AGAIN

I've been busier than a one legged man in a a$$ kicking contest lately but will try to get that information posted tonight or tomorrow. It's actually very easy

What mods are needed?

You just have to trim the front edge of the fender until the airbox screwholes line up, raise the fender until it lines up in the subframe and drill two holes for the back screws. THEN... get your heaviest friend to sit on the seat because those bolts are hard to get in the first time.

Maybe your heaviest friend and his dog....and his brother, too.

The good thing is once you make the first time fit, you don't have to muck with it again, as it is easy after the first time.

One word of caution.  Trim small amounts.  I used a bench grinder to remove fender material a little at a time to ensure I did not take too much off.  The grinder makes short work of the plastic, so makes the triming quick and easy.

True, you're only going to trim an 1/8 to a 1/4 of an inch. Trim, test fit, trim, test fit...

Oops, then I trimmed too much.  Now that I see how it fits, the next one will be much improved.  Mine doesn't look odd, and the bike gets a lot of attention because folks are not sure if it is a 250 or a 500...until she lights up.  Then no one is confused.

I've got one on my bike.  Problem is where to find them.  Most major catalogs don't list KX 250 fenders back that far.  They seem to stop right at 94 and up.  Where's the best source for these babies??

Try your local Kawi dealer. I found mine hanging on the wall for $18

Sorry to bring this  back, but we started talking about it in the recent rear fender topic. I got my 93' KX250 rear fender today, I haven't done any trimming yet but it seems like it'll need more than just the part that touches the air box. How about where the silencer comes out, the fender has a lip that looks like it'll need trimmed. Will the seat fit snug like the stock fender?

Post by: Paul on January 15, 2004, 02:23:16 AM
Yeah, you need to notch the fender for the silencer but other than that it looks and fits pretty d**n good.

On the first one I installed, I trimmed more material than required, but no one every noticed, and didn't matter anyway, so the trim work is not exacting.

Well, finally got it on. It took a little more grinding than I thought. The rear of the seat wouldn't fit, I had to grind down the ridge where the seat fits into. Once done I was stoked because it looks so much better. I'll post some new pics once I get my ZTR kit.

Just got my 93 kx250 rear fender today and after holding it up, I realized that it does not even come close to fitting between the rear holes on the subframe, I read what you guys have said to grind(front part by airbox, and exhaust lip) But how about not fitting between the rails? Thank you in advance. Sorry for all the posts lately just got this thing and trying to get it put together so I can ride it this weekend.

Just sqeeze the fender together and it will go between the subframe rails (try putting the fender on a heater vent for a few minutes to make the plasit warm before you begin).  You might also have to use a hair dryer to soften the plastic next to the air box in order to get it to flex enough to put the bolt in.  If this doesn't work, post up again and we'll get you through.

Was going alright until I get to where the seat has got to go on. In the pics posted on this site it looks factory mine  has a big gap unless I cut the corners off the fender. My digital is dead right now and I cant find the charger if anyone could post a pic of there modified fender I would appreciate it.

Post by: fast500#12 on May 23, 2004, 12:34:27 PM
no mods required to bike just lots of triming to the fender. there are some ribs on the top of the fender that you gotta trim and of course you gotta notch it for the pipe. i drilled a hole in the air box and installed a bolt with rubber washer for the lower attach point since it wont hit the air box mount screws. i will post picture when i put a new one on because i almost looped it yesterday and cracked the fender over half way though the with so its alittle floppy at the moment.
