Have a couple questions on conversions. Hoping a couple of you can give me your opinions. I have an opportunity to buy one of two complete bikes for really cheap. One is a 94 with a blown motor or a 03 minus the motor. Would like to know which platform would be easier for the k5 conversion or which one makes for a better conversion. Has anyone done both? or maybe get some opinions on each one. Would like this conversion to be fairly quick n simple. But if certain benifits weigh out the other, maybe ill go the other way.
Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan.
I have never done either conversion.
I'm sure either would work.
If I am right and both can be done equally, all things being the same I would do the 03.
Primarily because I keep my bikes a long time.
I have found that once a bike gets a little older you have a much harder time finding after market parts for it.
Not to mention the newer bikes usually have a little better suspension and brakes.
On a positive vote for the 94, it does come with an engine that can be sold to help offset the cost of doing the conversion.
I'd still do the 03 :-D

Just a FYI. The bike would be stickly ridden at the desert and dunes.....

You are talking about 9 years of technology differences, I say go newer.

True lol.
What is everyone doing for registration on these bikes? Are they just keeping the current reg. for the kx250 or what?
I live in California...thats why i ask. Looking more towards the 03

I don't know about California but in Oregon they base the bike off the chassis, so, as long as you have a title or can get one for the frame you should be good.
Although a call to your nearest DMV should clear that up.

Yeah they go off frame numbers.....thanks
