Well ordered up my OEM rod kit from service honda the other day... and guess what
"The following part number(s) are backordered from Kawasaki and have no current release date as of now. The rest of your order will ship out as scheduled. When the backorder comes in we will ship it out to you at no additional charge.
13032-1104 ROD-CONNECTING
92026-1346 SPACER"
So is this the end of the OEM rod kits? I dont see Kawasaki making any new "connecting rods" for a KX500 any time soon.
Very sad. as I liked the OEM rod kit..
So off to versah? ProX?

I guess it had to happen sooner or later.
-
you sure about that. that seams odd. is that a old or new part number.

All ordered off service hondas website... for a 2004 kx500.

back 3 years ago crankcases were back order for 10 months. has anybody bought cases lately.
-
I'm sure Kawi is still in production. Half the crap I order from Service Honda ends up back ordered and when it finally does show it's not what I ordered. They eventually get it right! I'm just glad I usually have my other bikes up and running so I have something to ride. If I had to depend on SH getting it right I'd be out of luck!

there are some parts on back order but the rod isn't. I found a oem rod for $58.00 thats cheap.
-
By law they have to produce parts for ten years after the last date of manufactured bike. They don't just go making parts for no reason though, what they will do is wait until they have enough orders to justify making a run of parts. That's how parts typically wind up on back order.

Ive never heard that one?
before my 350x honda was 8yrs old I couldnt get certain dealer parts.. (mostly plastics, front tire... etc)

Where did you find it?! why would service honda say it is on back order if its available?
-
service honda build kx 500 engines from new oem part. to do that you need a conrod/crank :?
-
just talk to my buddy at the stealership, he said they are on back order but they will fill the order sometime down the road.

Sharp EYE... didnt notice that...
The "order list" attached to the email had the correct part number.... I bet he just "fat fingered" it in the email.... I emailed him back just not to be 100% sure....
So anyone have experiance with back ordered (hard parts)... Am I looking at 3 weeks... 3 months... year and a half?

Sometimes the dealer will be given an estimated release date on back ordered parts. But again this is only ESTIMATED.
Last rod I had put on was an IMS Pro Series, I dont think they've been made for a while so goes to show when the last time mine was replaced.

I know hotrods is crapola
ProX shows a kit, anyone try one?

I put a prox kit in mine as it is made in japan and prox is oem maker but they are running out of rods for the kx5 here in Europe only find them in shops that held them in stock and Dutch says they are not planning to take more in to Europe any time soon.

i wonder if stewart has any oem rods. motorrad i would go buy a new crank and be done with it.
-
motorrad, i bought a genuine conrod about 3 weeks ago from a main dealer here in the uk. it took less than 24 hours to arrive. i use this dealer alot and have a good relationship with them. if you would like i will call them to see if they have one (im sure they do). post from the UK to US can be done in less than 5 days. just give the word and i will make the inquires for you and get you in touch with them

Would but don't want to lose my stuffer crank...
If I could get ahold of Stewart I'd ask him for one. (and alot of other things...)
-
maybe you could buy a new crank and steel the rod and other parts off of it to put on to your stuffer crank. I have a call into my buddy that does alot of mx motor to see if he has a oem rod laying around.

Reason I wanted a new rod. As I dont trust mine... anymore... and when a oem one was $55.. it wasnt worth getting mine checked for straight and magnafluxed. etc...
So no oppinion on the Versah stuff?

My thoughts on this..
exchange rate is not in my favor (aprox $1 us to .76 UK)... then I have to ship it... really dont want to be $200 into a rod kit. already have $150? tied up with backorder and half my parts in my hand at service honda..
Then again Im getting impatiant and about to order a aftermarket rod kit... which would be $100...
sooo.. guess we should go ahead and check?

I got a good friend that is high up in the kawi structure to run a query on that part. He said that there are some available but obviouisly not from the distrubution center that your dealer is drawing from.
This don't help you much because you have money down on an order already. IF not, or you can back out of the order, call dealers in other areas of the country to find your part.
Not sure what area of the country your in...

-
they are not on back order any more, just checked the other day. My rods should be here any day.
-
Good to here the OEM rod is back.
Mine Vesrah's have arrived. Look almost the same as oem, even better if you ask me.
They look a bit more refined.
Now have to put it together and balance it at 56-59%.

Thanks!

I've never used IMS in a k5 but have installed them in a couple cr5's and many other smaller bikes. They worked fine for me but everything I put them in was pretty much stock. I don't know detailed specs of IMS rods. I would imagine they would be better than stock and able to handle some mods.

Finally have found our scale
Weight is in grams, like in 1000gram in 1Kilogram. Just to be clear.
Total weight of Rod: Vesrah 296gr OEM 281gr
Bigend side 183gr 167gr
Smallend side 114gr 114gr
Bigend pin 154gr 160gr
Cage with pins 36gr 36gr
Total 486gr 477gr
So the Vesrah weight 9gr more, only on the Bigend side.
Hope this helps :-)
