Title: PowerCore silencer
Post by: martinfan30 on October 09, 2010, 12:44:21 AM
Does anyone have a way to make one a legal, forestry approved spark arrestor?

Although It doesn't answer your question. I have an FMF spark arrestor I'd be willing to trade for regular aluminum silencer from an 89 . It was connected to an FMF gnarly torque pipe.

If its in good shape, I'm in! This PowerCore silencer is new, never on a bike. Minus wrapper. No dents, scratches or dings.

New to kx's so not sure right now. I imagine  I can call someone this week.

It's a used spark arrestor, I could send pics.I don't recall it being in to bad a shape. I'm focusing on the frame . Maybe we can come to some agreement if the parts work for both of us.

Ya for sure. Lets communicate thru PM's. Like to see pics, and be sure a sparky from an 89 would fit a 2000.

The last person I spoke to about this said that the only way to get one approved was to submit it to the USFS and go through their testing procedures for approval.
Sounds expensive and not very practical.
Making the arrestor seems like the easy part.
It would be interesting to hear if someone has actually tried it.

What about a Sparky?

Might as well buy a Turbine Core for that price though.

Actually, a sparky and the stock silencer seemed to be what Team Green that was the best exhaust set up. Destry Abbott's 2004 KX 500 had the stock silencer with three inches removed from the end and a sparky welded onto to it, even though he was sponsored by FMF and had their Gnarly Desert Pipe in his bike. I remember hearing that Team Green claimed this was the only setup they tested that didn't result in horsepower loss compared to just using the stock silencer. Just the fact that this setup was on a legendary, winning machine has some merit.

After repacking my FMF Turine Core, it sure did appear as though it was pretty restrictive with the internal bend in the spark arrestor. IF anyone knows where to get a brand new sparky for a 2004 KX 500, please let me know because I have the stock silencer for my bike and would love to modify it and test it out.

Ok, which of those sparky's could I use to weld onto my power core? I'm thinking cutting the power core short and then welding the sparky on the end???

Is the ProCircuit 304 factory sound silencer a spark arrestor? Is it a good performing unit?

Hey Guys,

I have a cut/welded silencer/sparky that came on the 1995 EX-Team green KX5 I bought years ago and never used. My sidecar application uses an odd silencer. If I remember correct it is a little(lot) beat up. I will dig it out tonight. Both silencer and sparky are cut to mate up, I will post pics in a day or so. I have no use for this and it is available to those who can use. Los Angeles area, 1st 6-pack takes it.
