Being the cheap person that I am, I'm thinking about building a set of wider foot pegs for the KX. My idea is to take the stock ones and shape a piece of 1" flat stock around them so there's approximately a 1\2" gap between the old and the new.
Has anyone tried this?

Yes,my stock pegs are 2 1/4" wide after doing it.It was cheap and easy, but its time for new ones now,the pin holes are oval.
-
My pin holes are the same so I welded them shut and drilled a new hole. Hopefully the weld will be harder than the original. Worked like a charm.
I started making the wider pegs today and it looks pretty good. I'll post some pics when I'm done.

I wanted to go to the new style pegs is why Im going to replace the pegs and mounts. But Ty Davis or Terry Cable sell a kit to put a bushing in the pivot hole.

welding the pin holes will work of a while, but the filler matterial is realitively soft compaired to the pin matterial and will wear fast compaired to new pegs. ims stainless steelys are 70 bucks at rockmountainatv.com that rock mountain atv-mc great on line parts store good prices.

I do love Rocky Mtn.

IMS Pro-Pegs are BULLET-PROOF!

I got them done. Definately not as nice as IMS but they work great. Basically, I added about .75" around the entire peg. Much easier on the feet. Cost 0

P.S....I've got a set of stockers in the Garage....

Kawdude,
So you just added a strap around the outside edge with a 3/4" gap? I assume a couple of gussets thrown in and viola, wide foot pegs?

Yes, added the strap with two or three supports welded between the inner peg and the outer. Then ends of strap are welded to the inner footpeg. Then I took a 3.5" grinder and cut the teeth in them. I am still planning on posting pics. They turned out darn good when compared to the price of aftermarket. This pic summerizes the shape and color!
