Title: adding a battery
Post by: slow600 on July 20, 2010, 03:00:47 PM
i thought i already had a thread asking about a battery but i couldnt find it. this is the battery i ended up with, its smaller than a 250x battery. the only place i could fit it was in the airbox. after throwing together a bracket and mounting it, im worried it might block too much air to the filter. thoughts?

I use to have a 2003 or somewhere in that years KX250 and it had all the electronics in the airbox just like that and it was factory that way and ran great.. You will prolly be ok.. If you want a little extra air get a couple of those 1 inch round air filter things and put a couple in the sides of the air box by the filter..  :-D

Is that a Trail Tech regulator/rectifier?

yea, i have an e-line stator. i hav pics in the supermoto section if you want to see the bike. works great with revs, not so much at idle. gonna keep the battery on a tender when not being rode.

Definately not a KX250, they dont have anything in the airbox as far as electronics go. You sure you werent talking about a KDX200/220?

Hawaiin,
The 99 KX250 had the CDI & Capacitor is in the Air Box 2000,2001 & I believe 2002 has the CDI in there too.
Slow,
I would think that would choke alot of area off. The battery for the RZ350 is very slim & might offer a little more room (if you need dimensions I will measure it).

Slow,
Looked more closely to your pictures & your battery is already slim but checked the dimensions & yours lists 2 13/16" width & the RZ battery (12N5.5 3B) lists 2.375 width approximately 1/2" thinner.

Hope this might help

thanks for the input, got it buttoned up and went for a ride tonight. bike ran even better than last time i rode it (float got straightened out) with no bad side effects or hiccups. did a plug chop and it looks the same as last time making me think the mixture didnt change much. im gonna keep a close eye on the battery to make sure it doesnt rub a hole in my air filter, its not touching but might rub if the battery moves while riding. if i notice it rubbing may have to switch to a slimmer battery.

Learn something new everyday! My 03 and up KXs have the ignition stuff mounted on the steering head.
