Title: The Monster 700cc(small teaser )
Post by: joker_fly on June 03, 2010, 07:36:57 AM
Hello

So i know this isent the right forum for this, but i want as many off you 2-stoke nutters as possible to know what im up to

I sold both my 500 bikes =( But i had a plan... A Evil one...

Zabel makes Two stroke engines for sidecar mx racing that are 700cc single cylinder engines...

So i started looking for one and found it =) a 2004 four speed 700cc monster.

Now i started looking for a frame that had the drive sprocket on the right side (or the wrong=)
and stumbled across a Husaberg 550 2003 with a broken camchain. Four strokes.... Well i got a good deal on it. And now it wont have a pesky Fourstroker it will have a zabel =)

Ive alredy coverd some ground and the angine sits in the swing mount and the other mounts will be fabed shortly

But i have a question the spockets line up but are 2mm off sideways See below

Sprocket ---> |
                    C
                     H
                      A
                       I
                       N
Rear Sproket--->|
               |-2MM-|

Can i live with this or will this be two much ?

Please give me input

OOhh :-D

Hey Joker,
I love it when a plan comes together!
I have a similar problem with my 13T counter rubbing my case's...  Camm 22 had his countersprocket counter sunk and worked like a charm...
I'll look for his post and piccy.  would this sound feasable?  That's alot of torque pulling the chain off-center.
Chain is not cheap, and sprockets would also suffer.
Best of luck on the build & keep us up to date.. This sounds like a Very Cool Project.. I have only seen piccy's of the ATK.

2mm should be fine...but I'm just guessing.  2cm and I'd be worried.
See if you can't bring the front sprocket out 2mm.or move the motor over 2mm

post some pics.......sounds like a cool project.

What if you mill the hub 1mm and and front sprocket 1mm. I don't like the idea of a thin front sprocket.
Your talking about a 75HP engine and to much torch
Or a adapter for your rear sprocket. Made one for a rear disk to at 2mm, maybe on this way you can lose 2mm.
Like the idea of this ride, watch out land speed record

Hey joker_fly have you tried to walk the rim over, loosen and tighten the spokes so you pull the hub over. I and many others have done this with some rims for our hillcimb bikes. Some hubs are centered on the rims and some are offset. It doesn't work on all but it does work on some. Atk is selling the Zabel motor in its intimidator model so they are a good place for motor parts. I have a couple of buddys running the motors and they get their clutch packs and other parts from the dealer.

Those Zabel engines are based off of the liquid Maico engines.

two mm is only the thickness of a washer, I can't imagine it would cause you any problems.

in the length between the countersprocket and the rear sprocket there is probably 2-5mm of side slap when you are riding your bike anyways. i dont think that 2mm in that distance is worth messing with. i woudn't do anything with the 2mm if it were my bike.

That's what I would do as long as there isn't any clearance issues with the chain rubbing.

Cool project! I look forward to those photos. Personally thinning the front sprocket like that is the last thing I'd consider doing. not much meat left on that for such a powerful motor

Good thing about those Bing carbs is the clip that holds the float bowl on. Reliable and doesn't need any tools to remove it.

I really liked that design on the Maico I had.

Here is a couple of pitures of a buddys bike, his is in a CR500 frame. This pipe seems to work best for just hillclimbing but is a little big for just trail riding he has a couple of other pipes I will try and get some pictures of those for you.

I have just been talking to a man with a Maico 685 today (I'll put the pictures up as soon as they download) and his bike had a HGS exhaust on it.
It was unmodified and still chromed so is a standard part.

It had a little plate on the expansion chamber with the numbers 9081-1 on it as I remembered you needed an exhaust and asked the bloke lots of questions to find out where you can get parts.
He got his parts from Maico International.
http://www.maicointernational.com/ (http://www.maicointernational.com/)
HGS exhausts are made in the Netherlands if that helps any? Might be worth ringing them about one.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that his bike had a Bing carb on it also but the 2010 Maicos (including the 700cc version) have Kehin Air Striker carbs on them.

Regards Scott.

I can ring Maico International up and ask them how much the exhaust is and what order code it is if you want?
Its not the place I thought it was so might not be as close to me as I thought but its no bother phoning them up for you if that helps any.

Here's the other photos I took of the bike.

The owner of the bike said that the frame was off a Maico 380 Enduro and that he just bought the rest of the parts to make it up from Maico International, if you look here you can see that the frame has even had a steering lock at some point.

He also said that the frames have hardly changed since about 1986 and that the frame from the Maico I had (a 250 water cooled version from about 1994) could fit that engine in there, a mates got it so its possible that he might do it at some point.

Regards Scott.

Title: Re: The Monster 700cc(small teaser )
Post by: joker_fly on April 22, 2014, 03:05:40 AM
Regarding power
Its different
It has more power than my 380 ktm at any rpm, at just above idle
It dosent hit like a 2 stroke it just pulls  (you always think you have a flat tyre since the rear end is always lacking traction)
The thottle response is epic like a ported 250
The need for full throttle action is gone... just gear up 1/4 gas and away you go
Giving it the beans vill leave skids on the black stuff (3gear) IF traction exist that will hold it down it will flip

Long range pulls 800rpm to end rpm will smoke almost any mx bike ive tryed ink my 380 (the other bike using all gears)

Back side is
It will f**k you up (last owner of the engine ported it, broke his fot when it back fired then sold it to me

But the feeling of going full throttle in 4th gear and felling the insane power this makes is EPIC

More vids will follow
