Well I finally got a wild hair and decided to start on this project. I know it is not a kx but I plan on applying the knowledge learned from playing with my 500 to this bike. I would like to hear any ideas you guys have and any knowledge you guys may have on h2 resources. This bike is a three cylinder 750 two stroke so I would like to get my hands on three 1999-2002 kx250 carbs and complete electrical systems. The intake and electronics are the first things I would like to get squared away. I'm a construction worker by trade and the economy has not been very kind to me lately so I'm trying to get this thing running as cheaply as I can. It has three of everything so it will cost three times as much as a normal bike so I'm hoping to get some good deals on some good parts. Thanks in advance to everyone at Kx riders for any help and or support I can get on this project.

OOH Hoo! 8-)
I spent alot of time oogling over you tube and sifting through pages of bing results.
I hadn't saved any bookmarks as I didn't know anyone who had one. :|
I'm working on a friends 85 crx so during breaks I'll send over what I can as far as links and all..
Good luck on the project B, I know you'll do a bang up job...

Are you planning on restoring it as a streeter or transplanting that into a dirtbike chasis?
-
Brian
i would install a 809 rotax ignition on it. then weld on some reed cages. Then a set of pwm.
-
I had of these beasts , it put out 148 horsepower without the juice. Purplehazeracing.com is a great parts source also Fastbygast.com . To put the big carbs on you'll have to have the backs of the cylinders welded up , get a set of snowmobile mikuni-style intake boots, so you know how much needs to be welded , then you have the backs of the cylinders machined flat, drill , tap and install .intake studs, mark the opening and start grinding the hole open. I ran 38mm mikunis on mine , also not all the carbs will run the same jets it took me 2 pistons til I figured that out. Also the Fastbygast over-shift mod on the shifter shaft is real nice , second gear is extremely hard to come by , the only new ones ouit there run around 500 bucks.CBX

Thats pretty much what I want to do but I'm going to use v-force valves in it And I think it would be cool to have three pwm carbs with the power jet and the kx250 electronics running each cylinder, recut the head, porting and all that kinda good stuff good pipes. Who makes good pipes for these things? do you know?
-
If you check out this guys build you will see what I want to do. The reed blocks use the same reads as the kx500. That means I will be able to buy a set of kawasaki water craft V-force valves for it.

if i remember those bike from my past the only real complaint anybody had was the handling. they were fast stock,if in fact they were stock. good luck and hold on.

Looks like a sweet project. I'm gonna keep watching this one. :D

My buddy Paul races an H2, on a 250 chasis. His has no reeds. I don't know how. He used 250 pipes and reshaped them. Another Guy Lloyd Haause has Chrome plated pipes, but i don't know where he got them. He is always at the Polo Hillclimbs, another guy Tommy Daniels has one with chrome pipes. Guys that work on jet skis are pretty helpful. they are used to dealing with the triple design. There's a guy hillclimbing one in a quad chasis at Nationals last year with reed cages that had overall fast time in the first round last year.
They are super powerful stock. Paul's cylinders are jetted equally on his 750, but on the modified engine the center cylinder wanted to run hot. Frequent plug checking on that one to get it jetted right. The triple will run on two cylinders, so you have to keep your ear tuned up also.
Correction: Paul said the he used Banshee 350 pipes.
His clutch is hard to pull in. So hard to pull in that the ball on the end of the shaft actually stuck on the shaft. We had to cut the ball off and file it. Real small clutch basket and springs for so much power, too.

So I ran into a kink today. I don't have titles for either of the H2s I have. I thought no big deal I'll just title search them. Ya right the B at the dmv told me nope If I cant prove they belonge to me there's nothing they can do. My two options are call a toe company and have them hauled off (YA RIGHT) and then have them do a lean sale on the bikes and sell them back to me or figure out how to get a court to award them to me. Then she said something else like "NEXT".
-
The DMV is never helpful when you need it most. Hope you can get all that garbage straightened out. Good luck.

Back in the late 80's I was pit crewing for my dad at a divisional race at Noble, OK. We were in the pits early in the morning when a guy with a full drag H2 fired the bike to warm it up. It was the craziest sound I had ever heard. I high-tailed it to the bike and about crapped my pants. Alcohol/Nitrous bike running in ProET Bike. The cat riding it looked Manson type crazy. It ran mid 8's at 160+ if memory serves me right. What great memories. Good luck with the build.
-
BDI,
I am sure you have a friend (? :-D) that wrote you a "Bill of Sale" with their serial numbers on it. I think that would show proof of ownership to Mrs. B @ DMV.
Once you get the titles straight, Jemco (in Texas) makes pipes for the Triples & Paul Gast is probably THE man when it comes to the Kawasakis.
Good Luck!

Most the people behind the desk at DMV dont know much. A title is possible, I would go for a bonded title myself. Very cool ride, I had a H1 500 at one time...you never forget the sound a 2 stroke triple makes!
-
I will figure out the title It's just going to be a pain. So from what I understand this bike is a six volt bike. What do I need to do to make it a twelve volt bike? How many volts is the system on a kx250?. Does anyone know if I will be able to pull off the three elctronics from a kx250 thing. The electronics on the bike now are basicly three stand alone systems just six volt. here's some pics of the three cdi's and the crank triggers. It looks like it would be a strait forward swap but how do I power it with out burning up the KX250 stuff?
-
Is there any chance the old factory electronics have enough juice to still get spark? Maybe give it a shot just to get it going.
-
Brian
Are you going to need light for this bike. A modified 809 rotax ignition would be nice since it has like a 200 watt stator on it.
-
Are you planning on restoring it as a streeter or transplanting that into a dirtbike chasis?
Plan on doing a street bike but not original. this bike holds alot of inspiration for me but Mine will be a bdi original.

BDI if you give me one them you would only need to come up with one title :-D. what ever you do don't file for abandoned vehicle that gives the state an OK to come remove the vehicle if they want to. there is some kind of no response thing that may help. or my dad got one of them china choppers and it came with a blank title. the title is real looks just like a normal title, but non of the fields r filed in. no make, no vin, no cc, no date, etc etc.
-
I have the Title figured out. I went today and got a po box in jean nv ,$24.00 . that way i could do buisness with the court In good springs nv. I have to give them the serial #s numbers off both bikes and engines. They are going to run the numbers and if they come back clean they will award the bikes to me and give me titles for both of them, $47.00 per bike. I guess the judge In there town just don't give a rats ass and titles every thing that don't come back stolen. I bet he tried to get a title for something at some point in his life. What ever he needs to do to make some money for his little town :| I love em for it :-D
-
That's great news. Not a bad price either. Hope they are clean and you get titles.

The last time either one of these bikes was on the road and registered was a good 30+ years ago. The lady at the dmv told me all their records from way back when were put onto micro film. They are going to type it up on a computer and if they don't find anything they are mine with titles.

cool thank you so very very much. This will be a giant help. Also all the other links you have posted.

There is also a crank bearing mod that Fastbygast does , I can't remember off hand the mod exactly but I know the crank end bearing were a weak spot and a must replace so it doesn't wipe out the stator. Also if you can find a set of Bill Werges street pipes they fit real good and work great. the H2 has a 12volt system and I'm pretty sure those electronic boxes will also work off of a H1 500.CBX

Thanks for the help. I heard that there was some mod for the crank and satator but I'm not sure who does it. I would like to see it so I can decide if it is something I could do myself or if I should source it out. Thanks on the 12 volt update :| I was just bouncing along on the net when I saw someone saying that the bike was six volt. I had no idea and I have been refraining from working on the bike until I get the title.

That's the pipes I already have they say dyno tuned by bill wirges right on them. Is that good?

Cool, those links helped my buddy, Paul. Thanks Tuck. Paul lost his clutch cable holder/ clutch release. fast by Gas had them, but the "reproduction Decals" site had them for 18 bucks. fast by gas was over a hundred, I think. I'll have some photos or vid in a couple weeks of his triple in a banshee frame.
Freddette restored an H2 4-5 years ago. He and his guys are super helpful about anything they can help with. I bet Jeff still has it.

Back in the day they were the Kerker of bluesmoke I meant 2stroke pipes . If they're not rotted out, either polish them up or have them Jet coated .CBX

Was that to the ground? That's amazing power! I want one! :-D

That's cool 8-) I was a little worried about starting this post because I didn't think it belonged on this site but I guess I was wrong.

I think if it's got 2 wheels it belongs on this site. Maybe not in it's own section but it's still worthy. :D

I can continue to look for more info if you want. I just didn't know what you all had already or what winds up as a dead end.

Oh, God yes! My buddy had one long ago, and he let me ride it. It was mostly stock, but it ran so smooth and powerful. Very controllable power, and a lot of it.
If I ever had an inclination to ride on the street, I would want the H2!

That was to the ground, the FastbyGast drag topend screams with a set of Lectrons over the mikunis the bike would make 158hp. I loved the bike but had to sell it to buy my topgas cbx dragbike , for me the 6 cylinders come first. CBX

GSXR1000 forks with ducati gt 1000 wheels. Already have anodized blue top clamp for gpr anodized green dampner. Paint will be white, kawi green and candie blue. drawings coming soon.

You sure you don't want to race it?

I have tried talking CBX into picking his former bike up. Maybe with enough input from you guys we can see some pics. :-D

HELL NO. Just now got the gonads to ride a Stewart built 500. Triples are for the Big boys, only. The first one is Lloyd Hauss. He has two of them. the other has chrome pipes in a YZ Chasis. The second is my Teammate, Paul Hillard. This year Paul has put one in a Banshee Chasis. With over 125 horse stock, they are hard to compete with.

[/quote]My old H2 is still sitting in the shed of the guy I sold it to. I checked but can't find any pictures of beast. The guy that bought it , put the lectrons on it and nitrous  . Then he sent the tranny out to Rudy Kurtz at Port Magic and had him do his override setup[no clutch shifting just jerk the shift up and it goes right into the next gear]. when he got it back he was practicing holeshots in the field behide his house , got out of control , backed out of the throttle and wiped out 2nd gear - with the override you cant chop the throttle , you have to use the clutch or it takes out the next gear. CBX

I will be raceing it but Im gunning for busas and zx1400 on the street. :-D

Seems like an unecessary and dangerous mod/mods for the antiquated super two-stroker. I would be worried about taking anything out of stock. The 3 cylinder configuration can cause lots of damage quickly, since one cylinder having a problem is hard to tell because the other two can be fine. You have to really know your bike's sound and keep an eye on pipe exhaust smoke (or lack of it) and equal expansion chamber heat, so you don't crater the engine. Modifying to the point of imbalanced jetting can get the center cylinder into trouble quickly, since the heat builds quickly there.
From what I know, of the several triples that I am a fan of, They all pull 1st gear, hillclimbing. 2nd gear is a known weakness in the triple tranny. Thats just what the guys have told me. Again, I do not have the nads to find out for myself.
PS Do not lose the clutch release mechanism. The guy who designed the Scy-Tech one, has passed, and the supplies are limited.
