Title: Learning The K5!
Post by: blueoval on April 02, 2010, 03:52:06 PM
Awesome ride today in Mojave.  The IMS tank is fantastic and I love being able to see the amount of fuel.  Still had to refuel in Johansburg to make the loop.

I have read many times on this site that others often ride in one higher gear.      After dialing in the jetting for several months now I completely understand running one gear higher than I would otherwise run.  I expend so much less energy, much less clutching, smoother, and probably increased fuel economy.  However, I feel it is near impossible to run one gear higher unless the jetting is right on.  I know so many others know this and it's nothing new to the experienced
folks, but for me it was such an Uhh Huhh moment!  I am so excited today as I had my best ride ever on the 500.  That thing would chug up hills like a 4 stroke.  Even after going slow for miles at low rpm in one gear higher the throttle response was immediate.

I did manage to get a rear flat on one of the rock sections.  First flat in 6 years.  Not a big deal for such a great day!

Got the flat on this section and rode about 20 miles back to the truck.

Patience and Persistance Pays off !    We have a trail that leads up to a radio/microwave tower also.
The snowstorm yesterday set us back another week or so....darn this global warming...
