You are going to get as many opinions on this as there are members.  I am running Maxima4 10w-40 syn blend and have for a couple of rides.  My transmission is still running.  Have tried a few others.  Havn't tried ATF yet.

Others may not agree with this, but I feel that if an oil designed for motorcycles is used then there shouldn't be an issue.  IMO it's the frequency of the oil change that makes the biggest difference.  My oil is changed after every ride.  That may be excessive, but it's not too expensive and I feel good about it.

Others may know about this website I came across.  Quite a bit of forum discussion regarding oil.

Never had a bike I really cared about until recently. I always used whatever motorcycle oil was cheap/on sale and never had an issue. Changed it once a week. Approximately 20 hours run time a week. Going to use Royal Purple in my KX500 when I get it put back together.
