Hello everyone, I am new to this site as I recently traded for a 2001 KX500. I am still in the process of trying to fix all the problems that I have found from the previous owner. Every bolt hole in the frame was stripped, exhaust bent, subframe bent. I have just about fixed everything, I should be able to start soon. I did get to ride it once when I traded. It did not feel very safe. I have been riding bikes for years, but I have never owned a 500. I'm sure that I will searching the site for information on the kx. Thanks for the site.

Welcome Sol,
I think once you get the old girl running safely your gonna be surprised at how well behaved they acually are.
The big secret.....Throttle control! That's it. I think alot of guys get hurt thinking it can't be much worse than a newer 450 stroke, jump on and whack open the throttle...that's when things start to happen...quickly.
Oh well, If a broke down plump old codger like me trailrides one I believe anyone with a lick of sense and can touch the ground can do it.!
Please feel free to jump in with any problems. ( It makes the Boss Feel good to see all the new posts  )
