Oh boy, here we go...

"if" traction is ideal, and "If" you can efficiently launch your KX500 you will kick the $hit out of any stock or even modded 450F...

however be warned, a 450F "can" beat the KX500 if the opportunity with the above mention variables is presant..... Trust me I know I have a KX500 and a YZ450F, 75% of the time the KX500 wins.....

Road race? Traction shouldn't be much of a problem. Keep the front end down and get off the line quick and its not even a question. Then again, 600 feet later a bad start might not break the race for you.

Let us know how you do! Nothing like whooping a shiny new CRF with a 17 year old monster!

How much weight difference is there between you two, that will play more of a role than power.  If your 250lbs and he is 125lbs you might not win...

i've seen crf500 do a number on some modded k5's in 400ft.weight,rider ability and actual bike setup makes a big difference.pick a distance to your advantage.

If the bikes have ample power to pull the riders that are on them then there are some other things to think about. If both bikes rev up at about the same speed/build power at the same rate, the gear ratios are close to the same you may not see a big difference between the bikes on flat asphalt. Infact the crf may beat you on top end if the two bikes have close to the same final ratio do to the crf turning more rpm. You need to load the bikes to show which one makes more power. you can do this by putting a taller gear on the kx500 or running the bikes up a steep hill. your 1/2 ton chevy pickup might be just as fast as your buddies 3/4 ton duramax but put a fifth wheel on bolth truck and then see which one is faster. You should go up one tooth on the front and down one tooth on the rear from stock and then tell him you want to race 500' for $500.

Out on the trails and tight stuff the 450's are fast. I bought the 09 red one from a friend with fmf mega bomb and carbon silencer and that bike just screems. I also sent the ecu to tokyo mods and it got a little more on top. These bikes really rev and with the efi almost always make power. I think that if the k5 is running well you should have little proble though.

I am 150 lb. my buddy is like 275 lb.. I dont know what the stock gearing is on the KX500 so I dont know what to put on for the race. I was told by a bike dealer/owner in my town that a KX500 was way faster than any 450f he got for 2010 I was gonig to get one before he sed that. Know I have the KX500 I hope it is faster.

Both my KX500 and my YZ450 pull about 85 mph for top speeds. The KX500 definately gets to 85 mph  faster than the YZF..

Also 50 mph speed "roll on's"  the KX500 is king as well. The brutal midrange of the KX500 is just that "brutal". The huge bonus with the YZ is simply engine "rideability" the power is so smooth, and thick torque. Just a fun bike to ride all day long. After like 3 hours on the 500, I am just beat to death physically....

I love this saying about a 500cc 2 stroke : "You can't wait to get on it, and at the end of the day you can't wait to get off it ! "

This is what I have learned to help my kx500 out.  Number one thing I improved was my technique.  That in my opinion is what sets most races apart.  I am just a trail rider, but I practiced for weeks on taking off in second gear.  The take off is where it is at on the 500.  The next thing I did to my bike is as follows.  I removed excess carbon from the exhaust port.  I then put the stock airfilter back on the bike and rejetted the carb to 168 main.  I have a gnarly FMF pipe on it as well.  I do believe how ever I am loosing a lot of traction with the tires I have now.  I may look later into different tires.  Your weight will also help you out a lot.  I would say since I do not know the condition of you bike both of you have fairly good odds of winning.

What would be some good mods for my 92 KX500 for more bottum to top end power? I want to smoke that joker because thay sed my 92 KX is a big old heavy piece junk and any bike thay own will dog me . Bikes like a yz80, rm125, cr250 and a kx125 that i beat with my stock banshee five times and my KX will kill both my banshee all day long but "all of the bikes thay have do over 110 mhp" can you belive this. Man these guys need to be shut down thay have too much mouth and dont know what thay are talking about.

"more bottom end " cripes, how much more brutal, violent low end do you need ??? Most all KX500 riders try to mellow out the bottom end hit. Do yourself a big favor and stop listening to your dumbass mouthy buddies, they are just playing the psych game. Trust us, your KX500 is good tune has more power than you will ever effectively be able to use....

1st, plenty of practice at getting off the line hard, work out what gear to start in (2nd would be my guess,as 1st will only result in the front wheel being smashed into the clouds, but it does look impressive!!!!)
2nd, dont listen to his mouthy crap. a 65bhp k5 weighing 105kg has the drop on a 55bhp diesel weighing 120kg.the only place a diesel has the upper hand is useability and tight chuggy stuff.once you pull the pin, watch his manhood shrivel, closely followed by the contents of his wallet.
3rd,get used to SLIGHTLY dragging your rear brake on launch to stop it going postal on you.any power used lifting the front wheel isnt driving you forward.
4th, u can use your kill button as a quick shifter. instead of clutching when changing gear, hit the button and shift.the intermittent lack of spark creates enough slack in the tranny to change gear without the clutch.
5th,play with your tyre pressure (rear).lower psi means good hook up off the mark, but increased rolling friction.higher psi means poorer traction off the line but decreased rolling friction.
6th, KICK THAT DIESELS' ASS!
HOPE THIS HELPS, KWAKMAN.
