Hoping someone can help me out. Rebuilding a 95 KX500. The guy who had it before me used his dremel tool to make his own "Vortex" grooves into the intake side of the carb! (Ouch) I was mortified to say the least when I saw this! Anyway I am going to buy a new Keihin PWK 39mm Carb for the bike. The Kawasaki needle for the bike (N82R) in no longer made! It shows some signs of wear so I want to replace it. I have checked the Keihin conversion charts and I think I am in the ballpark looking at an N-427-48-BEG or an N-427-48-CEG. The biggest question I have is what the taper angle is on the OEM needle. (N82R) Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

N82M is the standard needle that came from the factory. N82R is the one that Destry and some of the desert racers used to run as an optional one. Not too sure on the dimensions but Kawasaki still lists the following: KX500
16009 16009-1578 NEEDLE-JET,N82K 1 (OPTION)
16009A 16009-1579 NEEDLE-JET,N82L 1 (OPTION)
16009B 16009-1580 NEEDLE-JET,N82M 1
16009C 16009-1581 NEEDLE-JET,N82N 1 (OPTION)
16009D 16009-1582 NEEDLE-JET,N82P 1 (OPTION)
16009E 16009-1609 NEEDLE-JET,N89Z 1 (OPTION)
16009F 16009-1610 NEEDLE-JET,N89A 1 (OPTION)
16009G 16009-1611 NEEDLE-JET,N89B 1 (OPTION)
16009H 16009-1612 NEEDLE-JET,N89C 1 (OPTION)

Hey RoostDaddy!
Thanks a million for the information. The guy that had my bike before me, was a desert racer so that is probably why the n82r needle. Much of the jetting info that I am seeing calls for the N82M, but I am not a jetting expert and I wasn't wanting to get too far away from where I am right now as the bike runs pretty well. Right now I am running the N82R with a 57 pilot, and a 160 main. Do you think I could start with the N82M needle and these jets as a baseline and go from there or do you maybe have some suggestions?

MonsterKX,
The N82R appears to be leaner than the stock needle as referenced in the back of my 2000 owners manual pg.96 as optional parts.
I'm attempting to put some more jetting chart info in my gallery.
If you like the way the bike runs now and the R needle han't been "Modified" Running the N82P looks to be the closest needle avail to the n82R (see gallery for chart.).
The needle is most used for tuning the 1/4 ~ 3/4 throttle range. The circuits do all overlap, however and a little tweaking will probably all you should need to get you on target.
Either way, you should be close.
