Post by: bennieben on January 28, 2010, 08:26:18 AM
when i stand on my bike im hunched over. i see other dudes riding their bikes and it seems like they are not so hunched over like me. is it better to run the highest bars? what bars are you guys using that are tall? pics would help too if you have them. thank you in advance. oh, im about 6'1" tall.

I run Magura SX High bend bars and I'm still pretty hunched over. You can make your bike slightly more comfortable with bar risers and tall seat foam but the fact of the matter is that bikes are built for avg height riders which is like 5'9" or 5'10"ish and maybe even shorter. They just arent built around us tall guys' ergonomics. I doubt you'll find a setup that gets you standing straight up and down like those little freestyle guys do. I just deal with it which I have always done also with Mtn biking and BMX. Oh yeah... I'm 6'3".

 Bennie,
There are several tall guys using these type of bar risers.
There are anti-vibe, pivoting and plain blocks.

(You can find the measurements in a downloadable chart)

I have also seen guys use ATV bars.
Please remember you will have to get either custom cables made or find some longer ones.
(what happens is when you turn the bars toward either lock the cable streches and opens the throttle if you don't have enough slack.)

I have heard many people rave about the pastrana FMX bars.  They are higher than most. I plan on trying them next but I need to start crashing more so I can bend the ones I got. Cam.

Are you running stock cables?

I'm 6'7", I use the Jimmy Button bars, Rox 2" risers and have 3/8" spacer under the factory clamp.  The seat is stock height with a gripper cover, I rarely sit down.  This setup is pretty good, not perfect but I dont suffer from having to hunch over constantly.  I had to reroute the cables but all are still stock with no binding.  Another upside is nobody wants to ride my bike because my bars are so high.

re-routing cables for me too. Brake could use a + 3" line but I just removed the #plate guide and it is maxed out on a stand. Works fine though. When I sold a bike to a ave. Sizedguy (5'9") he said it rode like a harley with apehangers. Should have taken all the tall guy stuff off first  :-D

I put a pair of Protaper Pastrana FMX /ATV Race bars on last night, along with a TAG riser, of forgotten height  :?. I haven't ridden yet, but it feels very comfy sitting on the bike. I think it will make a big difference once I get riding. I was able to use all factory cables, hoses, wiring.

One thing that no one mentoned is you can get lowered foot pegs. Fast way pro moto billet makes some, I sure that other products are out that do the same. Its not a huge drop but every bit helps.

I bought a set of ROX handle bar risers for my 250sx and i absolutely love them! I went with the taller atv style risers as well. I'm about 6'4 and race the hare and hound series here in utah. The bar risers dramatically helped me not get so tired being in a sitting position for 3 hours. They are a little wierd at first but you get used to them quick and then you'll love em! I had to flip my throttle assembly upsidedown but it worked great. Also a tall seat helps a ton as well, personally i like the tall seat from guts or Enduro engineering.
heres were i got mine.

The only reason my k5 has a seat is so my air box has a cover =]
