Title: Another Super Central California Winter Ride!
Post by: blueoval on January 11, 2010, 03:48:31 PM
Had a good day yesterday in the desert.  The kx500 was a rocket ship.  Jetting was good.  Reed spacer I made was on it.  Tires are nearly new.  It's never ran as good as it did yesterday.  It has enough power (more than is needed) and excitement with a solid top end and case.  With a pipe, reed spacer, and a WELL-JETTED carburator as the only modifications!  This is out in the Mojave desert.  Temp started out in the 40's and by afternoon it was in the mid-60's.  It was just Awesome!  Here are a few pics.    ted

Gotta love that camera that I got my girlfriend for Christmas.  I think I have taken more pictures in the last 2 weeks than I have taken in my entire lifetime!

Yes, one of the hazards of riding out here is open mine shafts.  They are often unmarked and occasionally just off the trail.  Just off the trail means maybe a foot or so.  If you are very unfortunate and going too fast and overshoot a corner..................well you just may end up at the bottome of a 30 ft drop with a bike on top of you.  Yes, it happens out here, thankfully not often, but the result is often death.

Larry, if you are speaking about the quake on Saturday in Northern Ca, didn't even know about it until I read your reply.  I have lived in Ca for 11 years and have only experienced one small earth quake.  Don't really think much about them!!!!!!!

  Blue Oval,
Great to see somebody out there whooping it up!  Trust me the kids don't quickly forget the times out Riding.  I have heard about the mineshafts. I spent 18mos. at Ft. Irwin. outside of Barstow.  China Lake was to the north and Death Valley east.   I did spend alot of time four wheeling a Hummer, Deuce and a Half and a short stint on a Sheriden Tank out there.
P.S. I think your gonna' have to get your girlfriend a new, new camera...that one seems to have been put into someone elses service!
Larry:
My son and I were in the computor room/spare bedroom when we felt the roller somewhere about 4:26 pm.  It did seem to last a minute or so.  First one I felt up here (Nor.Cal)
I think the epicenter was  Eureka,  south west of us.

Yeah, that camera really takes phenomenal pictures.  The ttr125 next to the k5 is the one that "gave up the ghost" for the third time.  Had to tow it with the WR450.  That was fun!  My buddies rode back to the truck while I stayed in Randsburg with the kids eating hamburgers and taking pictures.  Oh, and taking a few short jaunts on the kx500.  Tuck I thought you may have experienced the quake as it is close to you.  ted

Thanks z50guru, the bike has come a long way since i bought it about 2 months ago.  I have put quite a bit of time and some money into it.  The tires are Maxxis Desert IT.  The rear is a 120/90/19.  Picked them based on advice from riders on this site.  They won't stear ya wrong!  ted

Thought it was going to be another super Central California ride.....hey hey guess it was.  Started out beautiful 58 degree day and not a cloud in the sky, but it has been raining for the past 10 days and snowing in the mountains all last week.  At about 3000 ft got into snow and ice that was kind of difficult to ride in.  Prepped the 200 all week and built a reed spacer for it and couldn't wait to try it out, but.....SNOW!  Turned around and went back to the truck and loaded the 200 up and rode my buddies ktm 525 back to his house on the streets.  Guess I am very spoiled in California and just couldn't believe I was in mud/snow/ice.
