What are the options for the clutch cover? My brake loves to go through the cover
BikeBandit is $226....... is there any other options......
Anybody have a clutch cover.....
Aftermarket covers that can take a hit?
??

In the past, I've welded .188 thick aluminum pads over vulnerable areas to provide a little armor. You already have a hole in the cover?
Larry

I think stock is the only option, unless a costum made like the once on this site.
What about bending the brake lever a little bit outwards?? Than it won't hit hte cover and save alot of money?

I sold the 92 because of it and now the 01 has a hole too.....arrrr
Bad luck or weak spot.
BikeBandit has em for $226 plus gasket now but wholeeee eee
I wish they made the cover in two pieces.

Buddy put that bmw pick on there when I was away from computer...he talks too much..lol

If you can figure out a way to rub elbows with Jeff Ward, or Destry Abbott you might be able to snatch a trick factory race team only Magnesium cover ! 8-)

How many members would be interested in a 2 piece clutch cover something like Doordie has posted? If there is enough interested we might be able to have someone invest the time to Design/Fabricate a setup for such. What would be a fair cost for such a service?
I would like the ability to replace the removable cover along with full access to the clutch & possibility of running an Auto Clutch.

Doug,
I have toyed with the idea of doing one but the price seems to get in the way. I think the most cost efective way to do it would be to make an adapter ring to fit a current prodiction cover, something like the 450 or 250. Everyone makes a cover just pick one. I would then weld the ring on. All I need is 3 more of me!

I've been playing around with the same idea jfabs talking about. just have not found one i like yet.

A 2 pc clutch cover was only designed to allow a quick "between motos" clutch drive plate swap on race bikes.
I've commented before going through all the work of custom fabricating a quick access 2 pc clutch cover for the KX500 is simply cost prohibitive, and not necessary for most people. 85cc, 125cc and some 250cc race bikes's see a high level of clutch abuse therefore on those bikes now a quick access 2 pc cover is a justifyable item (that's why the factory has them stock). How often do you find yourself beating the pi$$ and feathering a KX500 clutch ? Only if you are an absolute lunitic ! It's not a lot of extra time involved to just remove the complete clutch cover on a KX500 IMO.

This would be the real value of the removable cover. The ability to quickly tune and service the auto clutch would be huge for racers.

Let me try that Again.
:-D. Exactly :-D
-
I'd like it just for the bling factor. :-D

Be a great piece to make! Throw me the bone I'll try it out for ya.
Put flames on my cover like the air cool fins but flames....
Get right at the clutch without messn with the hoses and PV..and the kickstart seal.
Well the good news I got mine welded all up nice nice today for $25CAN
Smooth in the inside and a nice big X on the outter....says it will last for ever now.

That would be the reason I would like this option on my green baby .. :-)

Do the auto clutch installations need extra clearance, or will they fit under a stock cover?
Larry
-
rev-loc will fit with the stock cover. They used to be double the price of other auto clutch's, they have now droped the price. 595.00 for standard one and 695.00 for the pro. I think they are the best of the auto clutch's.

Are you running one in your 500 now?
-
I don't have one in my 500, but I'm going to get one soon. I have been running one of these in my crf450 for the last 4 years and it works great, it can take a lot of abuse. Always wanted one for the 500, but they cost to much. Now that they have droped the price, I'm going to get one. There is a new guy running rev-loc, his name is allen. He is very nice and helpful.

I'd really like to see a few different brands and model them in SolidWorks. Anyone have a unit (or documents) that I could take a look at?
Larry
-
Larry I will email you some pics and info.
-
Larry,
Went to Rekluse & they do not have one for the K5 & Revlocks Site is down. There is another company called ETM Clutch, but they don't have them for the K5 either. :x
Kawsf,
Is & how is the Revloc "Stall" adjusted, by the amount of the balls?

Maybe this could help some!
It's from Doordie!!!

It has springs on the top of the pressure plate. You do not need to change the balls. You can change the springs very easy. Once you have it adjusted you never have to adjust it again.
-
Well if someone was going to make them I would be very interested myself. I race hillclimbs on my 500 and it would be nice to be able to check or change my clutch plates without having to drain radiators. I have talked to a couple of fab guys at the races and they said they could do it but it would be nice having it designed by someone who rides a 500.
-
I read somewhere that a DRZ400 Revloc will work with some mods. I know the DRZ and KX500 share the same clutch plates so it sounds feasible.
-
Can some one tell me the difference between these two???
Dutchie
-
I like the top one. Would be perfect
-
The top one is from a 94 kx500sr and the lower one from a 92/94 kx250.
Looks the same to me!!! Maybe it need some small mods to works on the KX500!!

Are you a "Scab" welder like me? Is that why you have no pictures??
Com'on now inquiring minds want to see.
I can make stuff stick together but how it looks, now that's a different story.
If I want it to look good I call my brother. He can weld.
