is there any difference in the 88 89 k5 cranks compared to the newer models 90 and up? thanks
-
Fowler,
The 89 has the same updated P/N as the 90 and on. Obviously the 88 is in discontinued status so?

cant remember 100%, but a buddy had an '88 and his crank did look different. I'll try to dig up something if nobody responds.

had one of my buddies tell me that he thinks they will match up in the cases with the bearins, seals and flywheel. . .but it could be a weight difference but wont sure. .

I would think it would match as I believe the bearings are the same. The older flywheel alone is a big weight savings. Something tells me that the crank appeared different and looked to have been lighter.(never weighed it, may have just been an optical-illusion)

I actually think the 88 crank will work in the newer motors, 86/87 had a nut holding the gear on the clutch side but the 88 used the same snap ring as 89 and newer. I think I could use a 87 crank in my newer motors it looks to me like it would fit with no problems. I wonder if there was a part number change and in reality they are the same (88 and newer), I have both and they look dimensionaly equal with the only difference being the nut holding the gear on. Not sure though, haven't weighed them to see if there is a difference.
