A big hero of mine as a youth was the one and only Ron "dogger" Lechein
one of the most naturally gifted riders of all time in my opinion
-
Love the pics .... :-D and attention to detail... great ... thanks ...

It looking good, are you planning to race this in the EVO class. Did you plastic coat the frame or paint it I am planning to send away mine for plastic coating. Just waiting to get my subframe back from the blasters not sure what the finish is like hopefully the alloy look will be ok if not will plastic coat it as well.

Nice i like the '88.
All the bits are available, what are you after.
A mate of mine is doing all the hard work on mine, he is a whizz when it comes to bike restoration.

Man, that bike will look like it just came out of the crate! It's so awesome to read about a guy painstakingly restoring a dirtbike, rather than some meatstick punk that just beats a bike to death, then just throws it in the shed after every ride....
BTW, the first time you hammer that bike in the mud for a day, you are gonna' just cry..... :)
-
your right polar-bus, its easy to get carried away with these restos
just hide the bank statements from the wife
-
more progress on the project
-
:-D
-
How are you getting your engine parts and hubs so clean? Everything looks great.
-
A friend did it all, he uses an aqua blasting machine.

Purple Power is also an amazingly effective cleaner for bare aluminum components.
-
Outstanding... :-D 8-)
Like Polar Bus,
I don't know why seeing these old girls have life breathed back in them so appealing.
Great job,
There are several guys on the forum I have to apologize to....
I've been copying the pictures and put them in a screen saver...
Some day when I win the Lottery I'll be able to post some Picc'ys of all the cool stuff
I'll have built :-D

I was waiting to see a MAXIMA sticker on your bike. After saying you were a big fan of Ron Leichen I figured you were also a fan of his oil.
-
What's the newest bike allowed in the Evo class then?

Than a K5 would be the best choice
Would almost be pity to race that rest project!

Thanks Dutchie, but they need to be ridden, a crime not to.
A friend over here in the UK did it for me, he are some pics with better light, in the glorious sunshine in the UK - not

:-D

A Factory Show bike looks like grap next to yours
Maybe if you seal it in plastic, the mud will come off a little better :-D

I agree.....he was one of my hero's growing up. Gotta love the amount of natural talent that one has to have in order to get wasted drunk and pass out at 4am and still be able to blast ever one of your competitors at the main event. Ahhh Dogger, what could have been of you. Such talent pissed away.....no matter still one of my hero's. 8-)

Hi all
Anyone help
The bike runs a bit fluffy of the bottom end, a bit like the choke is on.
Doesn't seem to have that "crisp feeling when exiting corners in lower gears.
What sort of carb settings to people run on these beasts?
Another issue is when the bikes leans, fuel comes out the overflow pipe on carb
Or are there any other tips?
Thanks
-
Hey Dirk bike looks great!
Here's a link to a jetting chart that seems to get most guys in the ballpark:
http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php?page=11
Setting your float height should keep the fuel from running out your overflow too easily and may be a factor in the rich jetting.

Thanks for that Friar :-D
