Hello ya all.
My name is Mark Honey, I live in American Fork, UT.
My first motorcycle was a 1978 Yamaha DT400, purchased when I was 18 and my folks were on a trip to Europe! That was a fun bike. I've owned a number of mounts since then, an XL500s, KZ650, CBR600F1, VTX1800S, CRF230F (for my wife to get her interested in riding - but that attempt failed, :-( ).
I recently purchased a 2005 CRF450x - which is a very nice scoot, plenty of power, modern design, light weight etc, but it just didn't excite me (even though it was a bike I had desired for quite some time). I now have that for sale and I purchased a 1992 KX500 for $850. It's banged up quite a bit, but mechanically runs excellent and starts first or 2nd kick every time. Now this bike gives me grins and reminds me of my early DT400, so I am quite happy with it. I'm 41 years old, totally out of shape, but enjoying myself quite a bit.
I've already benefited from this website and I look forward to learning more!

Welcome to the world of folks enjoying themselves on KX500s.
Lots of good support and info available.
Don't forget to post a picture of your ride, no matter what the condition.
Tell us more about where you ride and the types of terrain you are on.

WUZZUP :-D I also have an X-model but mine is far from unexciting.

I'll be using your first name. :-D
Welcome aboard!

Here is a pic. I've been riding mainly down at the end of my street. There is about 2 acres of undeveloped land - just to get used to things again. There is a great OHV part called 5 mile pass where I plan to head out with my kidos and bring this beast along.

Awe - come on! You can call me Honey! Just not Sweety or Snookums!

I think most of my grin is having the KX at only $850 - so I can spend to update it - vs the $3000+ for the 450x. Also the X is still stock and corked, another large factor I'm guessing, as it sounds just like the CRF230F we had not too long ago.

Howdy! Newest Nube... LOL Welcome aboard. Interesting path to the KX500. I rode my buddies 450X, its nice to have an electric start especially in the bottom of a muddy creek! But, the 450X isnt much fun compared to the K5.

Bike looks great.
If your kids are young or just starting to ride, you might find the X to be a better choice for their pace.
Just sayin'...

Not a bad find for 800 dollars, can't really go wrong for that price considering it's a KX500.

True. I do have an 11 year old Son and a 17 yr old Daughter that enjoy riding. They are both into 4 wheelers though. I've tried getting them hooked into motorcycles, but all of their friends have wheelers and that's what they want to ride. We've had an CRF50, a Thumpstar 125, and most recently a YZ85. They just haven't enjoyed it as much as the wheeler, but I keep trying!
