Title: Forks not compressing
Post by: Sagid on August 30, 2009, 03:22:17 AM
Hi
I replaced fork seals by my self for the first time yesterday, used Rick's helpful instructions.
Didn't have no problems doing the job.
I just took the bike out for a test but the forks only travel about 2 inches at most... after 2" it feels like hitting solid rock, I didn't hear the "clang" as when it hits bottom. It just does not compress any further.

Any thoughts??

Oke that is about what i used.i used 600ml on 1 tube

Did you put the busses and every thing in place as it was? is that pin(rod that comes out of that tube thing in? and can you ajust the shocks? Did you pump the oil in? That is all i can think of.

Oke do so.For if you dont know top clikker harder and softer, bottom is how fast shock must come up annd down.

Here is a video how it must come back.

Did you go 4" from the top with the tubes extended or collapsed. If you did it with the forks extended they are way to full of oil and would only move about 2" before they become solid. Did you crash?

I filled them up with the fork extended...
I didn't crash, i only rode like 5 min to see how they feel and i could tell there's no response on the forks right away.

When I was a kid I had  y-zinger 80. I overfilled the forks with oil but the bike seamed fine until the first whoop section. After a couple of whoops the forks packed up solid, my feet got bucked off the pegs. I was hanging on for life with the throttle wicked wide open in third. I was going so fast the bike stayed on top of the whoops, I cought up to my uncle on his husky 250, clipped his front wheel and crashed him. I kept going clean off the trail and out into the sticks. I learned about setting the fork oil correctly the hard way    .

wow!   :-o i bet you never overfilled again. it's a good thing i didn't make it to the woops. i only test ride a trail near home.
I did kida test them before installing and they felt stiff but i thought i'm just too lightweight to compress them by using only my weight. (i'm about 130 lbs).

I have already re-level and installed. i'll go out and give it another shot later today.

Thanks a lot for your support!
