Title: My Honda CR 500 eats KX 500s for breakfast !

Hello everyone !
Thought I would check out this new site and stir a liitle bit of crap with all of you Green meanie riders. I have a couple of friends that ride KXs and they are good bikes from what I see. The 250 my pal rides is OK but has a very narrow powerband. The other guy rides on your so called "Monster" the KX 500 , a 1998 I believe. Nice bike but sorry guys, my Honda CR 500 will eat him alive on any track here in North Florida . Both are stock and we are very equal in riding ability.I also read in another post about Maxima 927 gumming up things, well I have used it for years both in my CR and the old MAICOs I raced and never had a problem. What does a power valve do ? Sure doesn't make the KX 500 any faster. My CR doesn't have one and does just fine.

I see ANOTHER jealous Honduh buyer has stuck his head in here. On the track is the only place that iron sleeved sieze queen has ANY chance. Drag that ancient relic - read all the technology of a goped engine - out to the desert or any other wide open space, where real bikes live, and get ready to have your a$$ handed to you

On another note, this is a board for KX information and it's obvious you are seriously lacking in that respect. Any and all inflamatory posts will not be tolerated and will result in the post being deleted, the account being deleted, and your IP being banned. This is your only warning.

 Heck I must have hit an exposed nerve ! I am sorry to have offended any of you KX boys ( NOT ). As far as inflammatory remarks go, you seem to be able to dish it out (where real bikes live, and get ready to have your a$$ handed to you ) but can't take a bit of ribbing. I usually go to the CR 500 site and we get hammered from all types and take it in stride. I know this is a site for your type of bike and I am interested in all types of big bore MXers.
As far as you banning me from your site...............well do what makes you feel good cause riding that pile of green crap apparently doesn't tough guy.

My only warning is I hope you never show your sorry ass here in REAL MX country.................North Florida.

CRs Rule, I know it, you know it.

Nuff said.

Title: Whats for breakfast ?
Post by: MarkNZ on February 23, 2003, 04:06:29 PM
I Like Your comments Red Rider, I would have thought that a Ferrari would eat a ford Pinto for Breakfast for Sure, But You're Comparing 2 of the fastest Dirt Bikes on the Planet here , and when mentioning them in the same Breath should be Nothing but Complimentary........I have One of each and when Push comes to Shove I prefer the K for my Type of Riding and the Tracks I Ride on. Seeing Hows my '01 CR is still new and Unridden I dont have a Lot of Choice, thats How!
I Do get the Odd Ride on my Buddys '99 CR and its a Good Bike to Be sure, Fast as Hell and Those Brakes!!! The KX is faster though, not by much but takes longer to be slower, but not by much. And he agrees with that too.

I've seen the Larrys Site , and Can't but smile at the Vehemence Given to KX500's by some Correspondents. Given that Honda Stopped
making their 500 2 Years ago shows how much Loyalty they've showed to people like you.

I'm glad you made your Comments riled some people up, either youre being tricky and tongue in Cheek, or a little more than Dumb and should'nt be taken seriously ! Which is exactly as I Read it.

Cheers, Mark

Did you come to look through the For sales section?
or has your bike nipped up and you have some spare time on your hands while you wait for a new piston

Mind I have heard that the CR is better for those who have shorter legs so perhaps that is what you want.

Happy riding

Regards :D

Well Red, I have to tell you that youre very wrong about that!

I hate it also as I own a 1987 YZ490 and just last weekend I visit my good frend Alan that owns both a YZ490 and a KX500, I also rode a XR650, CR250 and there was even a guy out there with a Band New CR500... I think it was a 2001?? Said he picked it up in Houston at Stubbs Cycle. Well in short the KX500 will beat the s**t out of a YZ490 and to be honest with you I think the YZ490 will run side by side with the CR500.

Just do what I'm going to do... save up and buy both! But dont knock the KX500 as you will have to eat your words one day (like me). :)

Maybe your friends just suck and cant ride???

Cheers,
D.

It's kinda cute to watch people come in and try to say, my girl is hotter, my bike is faster, crap. But, pushing coming to shove, I will be in FL soon, post me an address, I can toss the 'ol KX into my truck too.

What you say? MX or Drag. You name it.

The Red Princess has faded away.  However, let's not  be too quick to discount his claims.  The CR500 is a very, very, very wicked bike from what I've seen and heard.  It definitely deserves to stand alongside with the KX500.  Nontheless, in stock trim, I would put my money on the KX.  From there, it comes down to what you do to the bike, what type of racing you do, and whether or not you have the BALLS to hold on and run along side with the CR.  I have to say, I have never run against a CR500.  However, I have run against the Honda XR650, Yamaha YZF 450, KTM 520 EXC, and Honda CRF450 all in one session.  And I must say, I was fairly dissapointed with the results.  I was running a 2004 KX-500 with 15/45 gearing down a long dirt highway in Baja from the main highway down to Percebul.  All of the other bikes got the jump because I wasn't ready, however, I pinned it in 5th gear, and I must say that I was impressed with my opponents.  It took me longer than I expected to chatch up.  Don't fret...  I was the first bike into Percebul, but I didn't pass those bikes like they were standing still or anything.  The only way I could pass them was to put my head down and keep the visor from ripping off of my helmet.  Since I later learned that my counterpart on the XR-650 was pinned in top gear when I passed him, my guess was that we were probably in triple digits speed wise.  I'm thinking somewhere between 90 and 110 mpg.  The one advantage I had from all of the other bikes once I passed them and took the lead, was that every time I let off the throttle just a hair and pinned it again, I would throw an insane barrage of rocks at them.  Something they could never do with there 4-strokes in top gear.  I wondered, after I passed them, why they didn't give me a challenge.  I later learned, at the bar in Percebul, that the amount of rocks I was throwing their way, after I passed them, was way too much for them to handle so they backed off !!!  Oh well..  The KX500 is a very mean, wicked, fast bike..  And mine is close to being considered a WORKS bike considerding that I've got about $10k into this bike and still I had a little trouble passing the XR650 and KTM 520.  Nontheless, I still passed them, as you would expect, and gave them some serious rock tattoos once I passed.  I would like to go up against a CR500, but I would have to say, that even though I really believe that my bike is the fastest dirk bike on the planet, I probably wouldn't put any significant amount of money against the CR500.  That would be a stupid bet !!

What kind of parts can you put into this thing that equals 10K?  Sorry, if this is a stupid question but I need to spend more money on mine.  I thought I was done!!!

Last post on this dead thread...

CR500 was and still is more MX'er than most people can handle - it never evolved after 1993 when AMA stopped racing them.
KX500 was never the same level of MX'er that the CR500 was, but Kawasaki made the smartest, smoothest transition in the world to pure deset. The ground work was lain down in the 80's with the KiPS system addition to the big KX and was completed with the final frame modifications in 1991 - 1993? Manny correct me if I'm wrong there.

Basicly you are comparing apples to oranges, in stock trim a CR500 will own your KX on a track given equal riders. In the desert the KX will own the CR. If either has been modified it's game over, you can't compare them at that point. To many variables. Suffice it to say that the end is coming for the big KX just as it did for the big CR.

They both were the baddest mofo's the dirtbike world has or will see. Big block 2 strokes rule

In all fairness...

If a guy is bigger than 5'11"...well, the advantage, on an MX track, would start going towards the KX. As for which is better for what:

We need to have a group ride. I'm dying to see the looks in people's faces when they ride a KX that's simply had it's pre-load and dampening dialed. It's an ENTIRELY different bike once you learn how to set it up.

I'm the perfect size for the CR; However, since leaving the Ride Tide in '86, I've noticed that the more things change, the more they stay the same: The Red Dog still shakes it's head like it just got water in it's ear...nasty traight for an open-bike. Hasn't changed since '84 and it isn't the easiest/cheapest handling characteristic to eliminate.

The KX is more capable as an "Outdoor" MXer and the CR has better "Inside" line capabilities for the "Stadium" type of tracks...but...that's not a very "tangible" statement when you're on a bike that ain't got no business in such tight confines.

As for the last real "Mod's" to the K5? I believe '94 was when some of the SR kit stuff was incorporated into the motor (Shift shaft, Clutch-gear...etc.) and, in '99, the Suspension got some of the goodies from the '98 style 250 stuff. Since then...Bold New Graphics & Frames that lack the color of their roots...

The Honda is a nice bike....it's legacy DOESN'T compare...Wardy & D.H., Chicken and Larocco...and a couple of World Titles!

Nuf-Said...

Manny

Not to keep this thread alive but...Anything with two wheels and a motor add up to be a whole lot of fun in my opinion. So what does it matter what you ride? I like Kwackers so I ride them. Another thing...Last time I checked I thought Cali was where the real heart of motocross was  Come on out to AZ and do some riding if you're going to talk smack. You gotta pass the 65 riders I sponsor on before you work your way up to the big boys though  Of course I'm just funnin' (not about the 65's) and posting in good nature since it's hard to read emmotions posted on a site. Let us know if you're on your way and we'll find you a place to stay :)
