Gosh, I've never seen that before.  If I am not mistaken, it appears that the center of the gear has been chewed up a bit, reducing the spring load.  I would try and replace the gear.  If it's not available as a seperate item, just add a couple of washers under the pin to bring the load back close to normal.

Let us know the final outcome.

Seven and a half bucks and another weeks wait.  Oh well...... it's too dang cold to ride anyway.

Why would this happen?  Would seized exhaust valve cause the gear to sheer like that.  Pretty weird!  Nice pics though.  

I glad to see that weird things happen to bikes other than mine!!! :mrgreen:

Never underestimate the destructive power of CRIM. :roll:

The exhaust valves were indeed frozen.  That's my guess as to the culprit.

That gear is available from Kaw.  I think it's like 15 bucks though.  Maybe that's why it's plastic???
