hey i was wondering how the ktm 500 motor compared to the k5 motor if anyone knows let me know
-
Do you mean a new KTM 500cc 4-cycle like the 525 compared to a Kawasaki 500cc 2-cycle? What are you trying to find out torque and horsepower? I've read in general that for the same amount of displacement a 2-cycle generates 30% more power than a 4-cycle. Also, 2-cycle engines weigh less. I don't have any dyno results. But, a guy here named stewart has done a lot of dyno work with the KX500. I have no clue about the 525. I've ridden some 450s and compared to my KX500 they are kinda sluggish.

As far as i was aware ktm only makes 4-strokes in the 400+ range. The 525 is just like a 450 with a tad more power IMO. As far as compared to the k5... ummm there really isnt much to say other than the k5 will eat its lunch.

I think he talking about the ktm 500/550 2T motor.

1992 was the last year for the KTM 500

From what I have been told by my ktm buddy they blow up a lot and parts are hard to find and very very expensive when you do.Other then that I have whomped on every ktm 550 I have ever come across with my k5.

one of my good friends rides a ktm550. properly tuned they are VERY fast. i wouldn't say they are faster than a k5 but they perform very well. like BDI said, they are extremely hard to find parts for and if you do find parts they are super expensive because everyone knows they are hard to get. danger, are you sure that 92 was the last year? i thought my buddys ktm550 is a 96 but i could be wrong.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the 550s were made after 92 as well, there's some listed on Bikepics as being 94s and 95s anyway.
Not that Bikepics is always dead reliable for telling you what year they are mind, some of the KXs are a bit off.
Here's a couple.

I have no idea how fast they are but as spares availability is poor a bikes pretty slow when its broken anyway so its a moot point.

i have a mint condition 1986 ktm 500 cc two stroke and it blows the fat one compared to my kx500 in sheer accleration not even class i would easily get romped on by a 450cc 4 cycle

Im pretty sure the white one is a 95, it looks like my old 95 KTM250EXC.
