Title: How does this top end look
Post by: vaaprider on June 18, 2009, 11:30:55 AM
This is how it looked when I took it off. I just bought the bike 1993 model.  It looks very good to me but this is my first two stroke so I would greatly appreciate some feedback.  Also the piston has some numbers stamped on the top I can make out A7-9 then it looks like there is another letter, is this the original piston.

The head looks pretty good but the piston has a ton of carbon build up on it. My 2-strokes pistons look like new on top when I remove them. Remove the cylinder and we can get a better look at the rest of the piston and cylinder walls and that will help you determind overall condition.

I'm curious do you know what brand of oil and the mix ratio the previous owner was running? You might also want to post up the carb jet numbers.

If the top of the piston looks like that. The kips need attention

Main Jet 170
Slow 60
Air 1 3/4

I live at about 800-1000 feet but I only rode it for a few minutes. Most of that carbon came from Kentucky (Where I bought it) I do not know the elevation. I will install a 168 58. He was running 30:1.  The KIPS had massive carbon buildup, took effort to remove!
