hi guys im new to this had KXs for a long time just got an 01 kx5 and i need the engagement sprin i guess you call it ..any ideas?
-
Give some feed back about what issues you are having.
What spring you need?
-
Kickstarter slipping?
-
Some people have stated the oil used can affect the kick starter but I have never had an issue. Have you removed the kick starter and inspected the ratch type teeth on both gears?

Found this with the search function,

92081A is the one and thanks guys for all the replys:)
-
its on back order i dont know about where you guys live but here (newfoundland) its a long time... the kicker still works but you gotta let it catch or it wont hook at all
-
Maybe remove kicker starter shaft for inspection, maybe cleaning and re-assembly can help or reveal another issue.
-
I had the same problem. Be careful taking your clutch off. The hub is easy to break with the wrong tools and hard to replace on an '86.
-
that spring is a pos. i went down to the local bolt shop and bought a better one. little more spring and better coil up on the ends.
-
I have another post on this topic. If your kicker wont always engage I suggest to see if the teeth need to be sharpened.

The kicker parts are gone but you might look at some of the other stuff.

If the spring is not broken stretch it out half again as long as when you start.
I have fixed more kxs and tecates this way than I can remember.
I have also thought about sharpening the teeth as some have done but that is not what the problem is the teeth dont slip just the gear isnt being forced into it hard anoff. streching the spring or a new one works every time.
-
i may buy the whole thing from ebay and wait until it dont catch at all because i dont have a cluch puller and also after the bike is shut off over night about 4-5 drops of oil drips out of the drain plug is it possable to put a rubber washer there as i dont want to titen it to much im afraid im gonna strip the there in the base?
-
The 4-5 drops don't hurt anything besides the clean floor. It is a common mistake to overtighten that bolt, so you are thinking smart there. I had this issue with my kicker when I had a water pump seal go. Another time the little plastic collar had broke, but was hard to find until disassembled. There is no tool to pull the clutch, but there is one to hold the basket still. an impact would help you remove it, but the little tool for holding the basket is handy for tightening the clutch nut down. Hughes is right, taking it apart, may save you the money. Any goop or issue with getting all the spring tension to the gear would hold you up. The slipping is what is wearing the teeth, so you may be adding to the parts needed by putting off the repair. Ebay is risky business. I've got a box full of crap that I got a goo deal on, but was the wrong parts or for the wrong bike or already wore out. If nothing is broken or wore-out, that tip about stretching the spring out might be the ticket.

wow thanks this site is so much help im gonna go for a spin now haha and if any of you guys are on facebook be sure to add me as your friend jamie slade ( profile pic is a guy on water on a bike) so we can share pics ima post up some of the k5 today and thanks again

You'll need this tool to hold the inner clutch hub while you torque/loosen the clutch basket/inner hub nut. I have this same tool and it works pretty good.
-
I have that same tool.
