Title: 2005 KX 250 run hot?
Post by: JFL on April 20, 2009, 11:29:46 PM
Hi,

I recently bouth a 2005 KX 250 with an FMF SST pipe, I was taking my first drive of the season with one of my budy (1997 CR 250 stock) and on the same distance ride we stop and check the cylinder head temp. I notice that my KX was way hotter (couldn't keep me hand on it) and my friend CR was only mild.  Is the KX usualy run hotter than other brand or is there a problem with the cooling system on my bike?

I would check your jetting and verify that your cooling system is in good order.  The KX250 shouldn't run any hotter than another bike.  I am partial to the honda car premixed 50/50 coolant (blue).  My engine runs cooler with this stuff inside.  A rad overflow bottle is a good idea - I put one on all my bike.  Generally you can build one for free. Also cofirm you have a SST Silencer on the bike. I have been told that Pipe without theSST Silencer will run very hot. Also as Cam said check your jetting as your KX should not be any hotter than the CR.
