From another site, a buddy recommends these tires for my KX5. I thought a 120 rear was the biggest that'd fit???
Thoughts? Anyone run these two?

the 130 will fit , even 140 will do ,depends on the type of knobs

I prefer the Kenda Millville but I have used the IRC M5B and it worked OK. The kenda gives more performance but the IRC is good and will outlast anything. I am not sure that they offer the 130 and 140 in 19", possibly only 18". I used the 140x18. The IRC has really tall knobs and shines in soft stuff. Probably would be a great dune tire. Cam.

What type of riding do you do and what is your local dirt like? Tires can range from low preformace but long lasting to high performace and medium lasting. Possible ones that I suggest are:
Rear:
Kenda Millville 120 x 19 (this the tire I run. Combined with the millville front it made my KX500 handle and corner like no other combination I have ever tried - my area is single track, sandy loam. and clay. I run these on my 450 now. Very long lasting for single track. I have an indepth review somewhere if you search.
Maxxis IT - A heavy tire. I have never tried these but they are the most popular tire in my area, offer good performance and are probably the most long lasting tires other than the M5B.
Maxxis SI - Nice looking tire. Stiff carcass-meaning may not flex well. I have one on my wifes bike. Seems to work very well but It is a low hp bike so not a good test. Wider spaced knobs than the IT so would be better in loam.
Dunlop 756 - 110x19 Was stock on my 450. A very good performing tire but had a short, short life and lost all traction when worn.
Dunlop 952 - Never tried but similar to the old 752 which was excellent. The 752 had a very short life on my K5 (bald in one day in rocks). The 952 is suppossed to be much tougher.
Front:
I tried a number for front tires on my K5.
Stock Dunlop 490 - ugh! Ran it for a few years. Double ugh.
Dunlop 755F - felt good until it rained. Then I was on my face every corner. Took it off right away and gave it away.
Dunlop 745F - Stock 450 tire. Is generally ok but slides bigtime in any slippery stuff. I put it on my wifes bike.
Kenda Millville - Putting this on the K5 was a cornering transformation. I have a deeply rutted clay road on my trails and after a rain you can play in ruts, hopping from one to another at ease. None of the other tires would do this.
If you want top tire performance I would recommend the Millville 120 rear. If you are not as interrested in super performance as longevity, then the Maxxis IT would be the one. remember that these are only opinions and will vary based on your ridding terrain, type and personal preference. I skipped Michelins in this since in my area they are 2x the cost. Cam.

Just installed a 952, 19". A real bitch to install. Got it for 55 bucks at the local shop. Also a D742PA front. Will be trying them tomorrow.
Very stiff carcass....

Riding conditions....
Single track, with snow, deep rutted muddy and wet track. Then i also do some desert riding. Deep sand, dry lakes, socal type stuff.

Those should work well. The Millvilles are wickedly excellent in snow. Cam.

Have to say, the 952 is an impressive rear tire. It hooked up in sloppy mud, and even in long sandy hill climbs.
Our ride was cut short when a buddy on his 89 KX5 hit a truck on one of the dirt roads.
Broken wrist,ankle and a huge gash in his shin. Hes at the hospital and doing well now.

If you have a 18 inch rear wheel, I'd recommend the Michelin Baja. 140-80-18
They're a bit more expensive but will last twice as long as others (my experience on a 2003 WR450)

The IRC M5B is BAD-ASS! for typical SoCal desert conditions. However... those parts of the trail where the dirt is hard or blue-groove-ish with a thin dusting of loose dirt on top... take it EASY in those places both on gas and rear-break... it'll wanna break loose quite easily. It is a soft-terrain tire after all.
When I bought this K5 is had a 110 width Maxxis IT Desert rear. (What the..?)
I found a used M5B on Craigslist for like $40 bucks. Wow... what a difference in hookup and climbing! Especially when you jump down into a sand-wash WooHoooo..!!

I'll second the Maxxis IT, but only for the rear. I love the Desert IT, but will only use the SI for the front. In fact I just ordered new front and rear, they should be showing up any time. Can't wait to get them on and go for a ride.

The 952 is holding up very well. I just hope it continues after I get my jug back and install all the power mods...lol

I really liked my 756, alot, until it became a little worn. Now, I can't get traction anywhere... It looks like it should still do good, but nowhere near it's new performance...
I really think I'm going to try the M5B next, as I'd like a soft-stuff tire that will last a long time. I think though, like Cam says, the Millville will outperform it in everything other than sand and wear, but those are the two criteria I have.
Anyone know the cheapest place to buy an 18" rear wheel that is ready to run with no assembly required, other than mounting the tire, then on the bike? :-)
