Post by: turtle22 on February 18, 2009, 07:38:43 AM
i figure im getting around 12 to 15mpg. i have a big desert(3.something gallions)tank. i ride with a bounch of four stroke450 guys & it seams they never bring extra fuel for the trip. where i have to bring a gag can in the truck for a refuel at some point dearing a ride. anyone got any way i can save fuel(slowing down is not an oppition) or get better mpg

Good jetting and a lower float level will help.  The lower float prevents too much carb overflow on rough ground. Cam.

I have a new Maier one quart jug that attaches to the handlebar cross bar, I ended up not installing it after I found out about desert tanks.
I have seen tanks that are a number plate too, but cannot remember who makes it. When I ride my KX500 I always have more fuel left than anyone else. I ride with green blue and yellow. And everyone points to my tank ( clear) and mentions the amount of fuel that I have. I think the IMS tank is 3.2 or 3.6 gallons.

The IMS green tank is 3.6 gallons. how big are the (big) desert tanks and where do you get them.  Stocker tank is only 2.6 gallons.

With our Tecates when we switch from PWKs to Lectrons we up our milage considerably. The only way I can explaine it the Lectrons must do a better job of mixing the fuel because they make better power to.They actually pay for them selves in fuel savings.

Lectron is a brand of carburetor.  We run them on our two strokes as well.  Fuel savings are quite significant.  Even at $270 a piece, they pay for themsleves in one season.  Our 250's will go almost twice as far in the dunes on a tank when equipped with a Lectron versus PWK.
