The Last "ke" engine numbers were in '99
USUALLY the engine is serial numbered same as Frame,or very close.
Most of the time it's the same.
The actual Serial Number part of engine or frame number is the Last 5 characters.
24889 in your case.
That means your engine was the 24,889th ENGINE Produced.
The Bike's VIN number would Typically carry Same Number
If we use that same number in the VIN Number/Frame Number...
Then it comes out in the Range of 1997Models
1998 began at #27,001
1997 began at #20,001
1996 began at #14,001
Your number is well-enough "centered " in 1997 Range between 20,001 to 27,000
Fairly Safe GUESS that it's a 1997 KX250
You should be able to find VIN "frame number" located here

I have a question aswell.
My engine number is KX250LE000244
What year is the engine and does "244" mean its the 244th motor built and does LE mean KX250 L-1 (1999) ?? Thanks

LE ? interesting. L1 is 1999, L2 is 2000, L3 is 2001, L4 is 2002. Have you contacted your local Kawasaki shop? They could help. Where was this engine bought? What country? Sometimes numbers vary between country.
If I were to guess, I think I'd agree with you - 1999 - but you should keep checking.

OK, I just figured out that the "E" in LE means Engine - DUH!
With 244 being such a low number, it'd have to be a 1999

azdirtrider75, what you have there is a special edition of bottom end for the 2001 racing series. It was what is commonly referred to as a "factory bike". The LE02 is the limited-edition HiPo version of the '01 KX250. It was sold only in very limited quantities, and only to licensed pedigreed racers. You actually had to show your racing resume and get approved to purchase this model, as it was Kawasaki's "450F killer" and had a very special engine that put out more than 52 hp to the standard KX250's 44 hp. Most people don't know about these "limited edition" models that Kawasaki sold for several years. Hope this helps. Oh, and btw I "accidentally" bought one of these engines off eBay 2 weeks ago for $350. :-D Person I bought it from had no idea what it was...
